So I was looking at my 2006 Maximals, and thinking about how Botcon 2006 Megatron typiclly goes for around $1200 a piece, and I thought, thats pretty high...but who is the most expensive. and I mean figures which were actually produced.

Not counting "Oh three were made and found thier way to a test market" examples. actual transformers that a good number of people can own, Botcons count.

    Thoughts?

I once heard a story about a mint-green Unicron (Lucky Draw release, meant to resemble the mini-con generated dopleganer used to hold off the real Unicron in one Armada episode) going for no less than $4,000.

    I was scouring the internet and found this;

Generation 1 Fortress Maximus with Cerebros and Spike (1987)

Fortress Maximus retailed at $89.99, making him the most expensive Transformers toy in the U.S. market (a record that wasn't met or broken for nearly two decades, until the release of 20th Anniversary DVD Edition Optimus Prime.

So, if we are talking about retail price, then this is what we are looking for. But, if we are talking about what a Transfomer is "Worth", well that is different. :)

Lucky Draw ones probably Green unicron or Gold MP Prime.

if were not talking lucky draws then Fort Max ( and his variations ) or botcon megatron.

Botcon Megatron, for what he actually is. I suppose a MISB Fort Max would go for more...

The problem we have here, is that anything that is not mass released at retail will always be subject to the eBay theory of 'something is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it'. Granted, people are obviously prepared to pay a lot more for certain figures, but generally, there is no one TF that you can identify as 'the most expensive'.

Hell, someone could go out and pay ten grand for a Tuner Mudflap but that doesn't make it the most expensive, at least not in the context of this thread.

Maybe we should be asking what is the most valuable TF..?

Grand Maximus, Grandus, Victory Saber Boxed set, Fortress Maximus, Brave Maximus are the retail ones I can think of that are pretty expensive basically Japanese pre-Beast Era G1 stuff is pricey - especially if it's a different colour...

That said I got some Japanese Sparkabots a few years ago brand new and sealed and they were pretty cheap.

There's stuff that has a less value but is actually rarer I can think of too though.

And a fair few Lucky Draws that are cheaper than the retail stuff too.

I believe Road Fire, Dai Atlas, and Sonic Bomber (the three Powered Masters who make Big Powered) were all released in a three pack together. I can only imagine how much that goes for nowadays.

I seem to remember seeing pics of a gold (lucky draw?) Fort Max recently (within the past 2-3 months). I suppose that would be a top contender for most expensive (or highest perceived value) TF.

If you don't count lucky draw figures, or MISB stuff, here's my list (in no real particular order)

    Fort Max
    Grand Max
    Black Zarak
    Dino King

I have also seen the japanese exclusive headmasters and cassettes sell for ridiculously high prices for what they are. As sets, they are easily in the same category (both rarity and cost) as the figures I listed above. And yes, as the above poster stated, basically anything that was Japanese G1 only (pre-beast wars) commands large sums.

I am sure that the Lucky Draws are up there in price. In terms of what I have seen...an original/Diaclone "blue" Bluestreak to go for $6,000. It was loose and in pretty good shape. There is no telling how much one would be if it came with its box.

Maybe Predaking, Green Unicron, G1 Sixshot, or a mint G1 Optimus Prime.

I imagine a MISB case-fresh G1 Grand Maximus would probably be it. If you want to count limited figures... well, there's that gold statue of G1 Prime that was given out to some Takara employees, that's up there enough for rarity that it has a shot.
