Let's well, my advice is to just open them up and have fun with them, however, should you get anything really, really rare, it's best to keep that in its box.

 

Ultimately you will find your own way (as it should be). At least to start don't go out buying everything under the sun you find. You will end up with a lot of figs that will make you ask "what did I get that for?". Take your time. This is not a race to get more than the other guy. It is a hobby and as such means different things to different people. No one person is right or wrong. Find your own path.

Otherwise, the only rule you need is to buy what you like and don't be a completist.

 

Open those babies up, pile them on the floor, and roll in them. Let them pour through your fingers and enjoy the smell of fresh uncontained plastic ahhhh...then take a 2 hour nap in them. At least........ thats what someone might do.........Yeah.....um....If your into that sort of thing. I mean......that's not really something that a normal person might do......is it?

you can enjoy them most with a 12 of your favorite beer, and a afternoon of fine dining. hehe...... Dude they display great anyway loose, misb or even both!

Keep them MISB, so you'll never touch the toy, then AFA grade them all, so you'll never touch the box. Then lock them in a safe so you can't even look at them. That's the ONLY way to collect!

 

If I want a boxed G1 figure, I usually try to find the Japanese release. Not only is the box art nicer, but the figure can be taken out and enjoyed without having to destroy the inner packaging.

 

I open them and display them, I transform them every once in a while so I don't get rusty and if I think of a pretty cool story, I act it out with them.

What good is a collection if you can have fun with it?

Man i have already been there... When 25th Gi Joe started hitting shelves i started buying everything Joes, Cobras, Vehicles, army building the crap out of The troopers and even buying repaints of repaints. Thankfully i got myself out of that mentality or i would have went broke. So with TF's i am only buying the ones i want.


Also apparently much like everyone else here i have decided that i am gonna open these bad boys up!!

Yea i mix mine up some are MISB some arent but most of that is due to storage and display room heh. I REALLY need to get a couple of display cases.

Take the ones you REALLY like and separate them from their perspective lines, so you can have a little showcase of your recent favorites. I am still working on mine, but in there right now is G1 Animated Shockwave with hunch deployed, Animated Jetfire and Jetstorm (AWESOME figs), and Movie Fracture, she's just soo badass.

 

You should decide for yourself, but for me the appeal of Transformers is being able to transform them. I wouldn't be able to keep a MISB collection. FREEDOMMMMM!!
