Is it a show of some sort? I hear about it constantly on TFW. What is it? More importantly, is it any good?

Seriously, his explanation was too long? Or do you just mean the link is too long? If anything, his explanation didn't tell you enough.

After The Transformers cartoon ended here in America, Japan kept going with their own independently-produced cartoons. These looked more anime and used more typically Japanese mannerism (such as having Arcee behave like a secretary since she's a woman).

Headmasters was the first of these, and the only one to directly follow the American series (Masterforce and Victory created their own storylines, having almost nothing to do with the original series aside from cameos and using some of the same toys as characters).

Headmasters is basically an alternative to "the Rebirth;" rather than 3 hastily produced episodes, it's an entire 42 episode series following the end of "The Return of Optimus Prime," thus giving you more of a chance to get to know the Headmasters as characters, as well as giving you some of the final glimpses of the guys from the first seasons (such as Prowl. Okay that might seem weird since Prowl died in the movie, but Japan had the timeline of the movie all wonked out because they didn't get it at the same time as us).

As for the question of whether it's any good... well, everyone can judge it for themselves, but the answer is "not really"

It was a Wikipedia link, not that I don't appreciate it, but the long walls of text are off-putting.

    Interesting, so, pass?

i recommend watching masterforce and victory, those are great transformers shows

headmasters is just bland really, not horrible but not great either, just average. i'd watch it just to say you watched it really, and if you want to see the headmasters do more

YES, PASS! Look at my avatar, Danny boy and "Uncle Sixshot"...no really, it is. I leave it up to remind myself how BAD Headmasters was. Don't torture yourself with it, as others have said the other Japanese series are MUCH better.

Are you kidding? You are kidding, right? When you want to know what anything is, you google it. Usually you get a Wikipedia link. You don't want to read a paragraph on Wikipedia, so you're asking us to sum it up for you? Doesn't that take even more time than it took you to make a topic?

Headmasters isn't a spectacular show, but it's fun. If you got $20 and want a DVD series, it's a much better buy than a lot of stuff in that price range that would be its competition.

Seriously what has become of this forum?

The quick version is that Headmasters is a Japanese Transformers show from the 80's that has recently resurged in popularity due to it being finally released state side on DVD.

Also important to note is that it ignores Rebirth(Season 4)..

Has the fandom sunk so low that reading is now unacceptable? I feel as though the very concept of reading is lost upon you youngins, simply put reading is a good way to do this wacky thing called "learning".

If you don't wanna read a few paragraphs about Headmasters, then dare I ask why the Spark you even asked what it is?

Damn kids today with their skinny pants and their pop music, GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

You have to trick them into learning, by infusing it into a reality show :D

I just bought the DVD yesterday, mostly because I had a $25 Best Buy giftcard from Christmas still and also because I feel like as someone who has a significant amount of toys from the Japanese series, it was about time I gave it a once through...and yes, after 5 episodes it's only worth watching if you can stomach G1 episodes now and you just want to get a story line...does not hold up to present day entertainment value. That said, I'll be finishing it this week (I'm a school teacher with the summer off) ;)

I've watched the first three episodes of the DVD so far. It's fun to see more of Galvatron, and he's not really all that crazy in these episodes. And all the season one to three toys are still kicking around, I love the combiner team-up fights. Fort Max in big battleship mode floating over Cybertron kicking everyone's ass also rules. :D

It's much slower character introduction than Rebirth, much better flow so far.

If you are interested in jumping into Japanese stuff I recommend Masterforce and Victory. They were far better. Not that Headmasters was bad, it just wasn't great.

TFW: Your source for custom cliff notes.

I know there was likely an issue of licensing, but I'm really disappointed the shout Headmasters release doesn't contain the Star TV english dub of Headmasters. I'd be more likely to buy a bootleg for this reason alone.
