Power Rangers seemed like a Voltron rip off to me.

 

I honestly have to say...I hated (still do) Power Rangers. I was a teen when that show came out in the 90's. I thought it was the most lame and corny show in the television network. I called it the "fake me out" Voltron!

Power ranger sucks!

 

I hated Power Rangers when I was a kid, but loved the zords for some reason. It really depends on what you like. Power Rangers hasn't really improved the articulation of the zords, instead opting for larger and more bizarre combinations (though you can get articulated candy toy versions). Transformers combiners outside of Rail Racer aren't exactly that great either without add on kits though. Overall I like TFs more (of course  ).

In the words of the Nostalgia Critic upon his viewing of Power Rangers and mine alike, I thought; "Really, no one can be this fucking stupid! Barring it's comercial success, that show fails catastrophically on every level to me, from the zords to the costumes, to the acting, to the stories, to the fight scenes to the villains, it's terrible, I can honestly say I've never, ever, ever seen an entire episode of Power Ranges in my life, it's that bad!

G1 Transformers superior, Power Rangers inferior!

 

It just seemed so obvious.. but they added too much lameness.

 

The PR Zords used to be pretty cool but I'll take articulation over combining bricks anyday.

But basically the main reason I liked the Power Rangers Zords when I was younger is that they reminded me of Transformers. So I Guess TFs win either way I look at it  

 

Wait, what? Voltron was based off Beast King GoLion, which aired in the early 80s, while Power Rangers is based off Super Sentai, which has been around since the 70s. How on earth can Power Rangers be a rip-off of Voltron, when both are based on a general concept, which Sentai did before GoLion?

At any rate, I'm not sure how one can compare Power Rangers and Transformers. They are both aimed at different audiences and put a different focus on things. However I'll put up a few points of view of my own:

1) Toy-wise, I have a greater affinity for Transformers, because of the greater engineering and detail. I feel this is because Transformers toys are aimed at an older market in the first place. However I sometimes feel (I'm probably in the minority) that Transformers' details and engineering are getting a bit overdone, making them fragile and occasionally unwieldy. It's not to say they're unplayable, but I find myself fiddling with Transformers less as time goes by because they take a bit too much time and effort to convert from one mode to the other. Not a bad thing, mind you, but having fine-dining all the time, with all the protocol, can get a bit boring.

2) Show-wise, I like them both equally. Transformers often has very deep stories full of plot and exposition, and is much more mature than Power Rangers. However at times, like above, my flavors tend to bend to a more simplistic tale that I can enjoy without thinking too much. Power Rangers fulfills my occasional need to just have an adrenaline show that screams cool every few seconds. It's like reading a Golden/Silver Age comic, where heroes were clear-cut heroes, who stop at nothing to uphold what's right. It also helps that the Power Rangers are much more grounded in humanity (of course, due to the human characters), and I can identify with them better.

I don't know much about either franchise to be honest. When I was a kid, Voltron was big with kids,.. many many years later came the Power Rangers. That's all I know. Either way this is a dumb thread. "What is better? Blue or green?"

 

Both be equal in my book. I collect them both and I love each line in my own way. :3
