I wanna try making a video, but can't seem to find anything to download

I have movie maker that came with windows but it won't open AVI files which my camera makes the videos as

basically, I just want to take the video I have, then add music on top of it without using the original sounds on the video

If you've got unlimited budget look at Adobe Premiere Pro or Sony Vegas 7. Otherwise I'm sure there's a few half decent opensource programs out there.

The bastard ass staff at my college champions Final Cut like it's the greatest thing ever, but I think Premiere is just fine.

I use final cut myself, but it's nothing compared to the full studio package.

I have more fun with Motion than I deserve to.

I really, really enjoy Vegas, which was recommended to me by Jux. The amount of filters and options Vegas gives you make it a fun program to use.

go old school. use multiple VCRs. When I used to make movies in high school thats what I did. it can give a great visual effect, computer programs are great, I use them now, but when I wanted to go grainy, and have a dirty look I'd use the old VCR trick.

Top of the range version goes for OVER $500!

But there are some cheaper cut down versions. Look here.

There's a lot out there. I do the SQA for a company in central Mass that makes a video editing systems but for the Mac. There's a lot out there. I like Premiere Pro 2 myself for Windows editing. Sony's got a pretty good program with Vegas.
