What if Soundwave were Barricade in film 2007 instead?

Could that had work? And if only the cons had a meeting similar to the Autobots at the observatory, their characters could have been fleshed out a bit. Right after Megatron gets free, they all gathered and discuss the plan forward.

...why? Soundwave's not an interrogator, he's their communications officer. (Side note: This is what's worrying me about this strict G1-focused attitude: Nothing new and cool like Barricade. We would have never seen something like a Decepticon disguised as a cop car with this G1 adherence.)

I don't think fleshing out the Decepticons was really the goal of the movie. It was trying to flesh out the humans and the Autobots, the Decepticons were merely the threat that had to be dealt with (which is often times all they are in most series). (Not to mention if you think about it Transformers seems to do better when there aren't any Decepticons lol)

In 2007 Soundwave was too busy playing a satellite; not sure why he wasn't focusing on the Autobots activity and Allspark. Another plot hole.

Soundwave could have literally been Blackout, Frenzy and Barricade the entire time all in one.

We would have never gotten a Decepticon police car. Transformers is getting inbred as heck.

Beyond being Frenzy's "owner" he has virtually nothing in common with Soundwave.

Barricade, Blackout and Frenzy were proto-Soundwaves but Blackout fits the title the most.

He's pretty much a Soundwave who's not actually named Soundwave:
    Blue? Yep
    Loyal to Megatron? Yep
    Has a pet minion? Yep
    Monotonous personality? Yep
Not on-super friendly terms with Starscream? Yep

So, what I'm getting from this thread is that Soundwave's main personality trait is "launches smaller robots from body". If anyone else does that, they should've been Soundwave.

    Sorry, Blaster.

I could see soundwave interrogating sam. But I think he could of been blackout, or some type of communication vehicle.

Everybody's getting WAY too attached to soundwave. He's by far the worst excuse of a warrior even for decepticon standards, people only care about him because that stupid "eject" gimmick but without his cassettes, he'll cut and run from any adversaries.

Thank god bay didn't follow up with this ridiculous idea; both Blackout and Barricade have proven to be more effective assets with (and without) their minions compared to him.

Then we wouldn't have had all of these theories about why Barricade's fate has been ambiguous in each odd-numbered movie and why he hasn't appeared in the odd ones. Including my own: Insane Theory: RotF Sideways = Barricade!

On a related, notice how in DotM Barricade has Soundwave's voice when executing Que, and also at Stonehenge in TLK?

I strongly disagree with what you’re saying about Soundwave

I disagree-Vortex was going to be Blackout according to this: Transformers (2007) | Script Slug. (Bottom of Pg. 8)

Actually, Blackout was originally going to be Soundwave, Vortex, Grimlock, and Incinerator. He was originally conceived as Soundwave, hence his relation to Scorponok, who was originally conceived as Ravage.

    • Blackout was originally conceived as Soundwave, hence his symbiotic relationship with Scorponok, who was originally conceived as Ravage. Though this obviously changed, his portrayal in the Ghosts of Yesterday novel is rather Soundwave-esque. Likewise, in the IDW prequel comic, Blackout is the only Decepticon to land on Earth and acquire his alternate mode without any witnesses, whereas Starscream and Barricade had to kill existing witnesses. In the film itself, Blackout's only speaking role has him quickly reporting to Starscream's call... in Cybertronian, with he alone both hailing Megatron upon the AllSpark's discovery and attempting to aid him in battle against Prime. What's more, all this "Soundwave-ness" is further enhanced by Hasbro's official bio, calling Blackout "his leader's hound".

Everything is on TFWiki for your reference.
