What if Silverbolt and the Wreckers are neutrals?

Currently we assume Silverbolt and the Wreckers are Autobots.

The ship in Detroit I believe is Silverbolt. Given the similar motif of being heavily armed that could mean they are from the same group. Now we haven't seen a Autobot or Decepticon symbols on these guys.

I posit the theory they are neither Autobots or Decepticons but Neutrals. Heavily armed Neutrals that is.

Which could mean the event that triggered the space race would not be known by the Decepticons or Autobots as they do not have jurisdiction over these bots.

An interesting idea, but given that the movies are pretty much rock 'em sock 'em robots where the good guys run all over the bad guys I don't see them going deep enough to go with more than the black and white of modern good guys and bad guys.

Perhaps a cartoon one day could explore the idea of more than just two factions but I just don't see a film doing it.

Kind of like the whole 3rd Race of Transformers in IDW's Drift series? Interesting

I'm still not sure the ship is Silverbolt, but it would be pretty awesome, though. And not to mention that he'd be pretty damn big.

I think it'd be cool if they were noncommittal to either side, then decide to fight the Decepticons based on the "incident in Detroit" they keep referring to.

IF they are neutral, its going to be the biggest thing since Maximals and Predacons.

Won't happen. Too boring having robots who don't want to fight.

Perhaps more on they don't want to join either side. On one side you have psychotic jerks the other we have don't harm fleshlings at any cost.

Sort of 'We don't want to fight or cause trouble, but if the humans start to hassle us we won't hesitate to squish them'. I could see the Decepticons trying to woo them to their side if the new 'bots are powerful, while the Autobots are going 'No, no - that's naughty. Love the little fleshies. Become their robot pets like we have'.
I'm sure if you're a massive powerful alien robot and people won't leave you alone that'd have some kind of story interest, even if it's just a little. You fly through the nice quite void of space and then land on a primitive planet for some peace and a nap and the next thing you know everyone wants you to come join their war or submit to their rules and control.

I don't think the original poster meant robots that don't fight but robots who fight under a banner other than Autobot or Decepticon. A bit like how in Beast Wars had the Tripredacus Council.

Well then they're not neutral. Also, the Tripredacus Council were Predacons.

I think it'd be cool to have the Wreckers be rogue Autobots, with no side. They just cause chaos for both Autobots and Decepticons, hence the name Wreckers. I can see the other Autobots having to convince them to fight for their side.

    Too small.

Anyway Silverbolt is my best bet for the Detroit ship with lots of guns.

Meh, it is possible. Just look at these pics and look at the difference between Omega Supreme and Optimus. If you transform the ship, it could be twice the size of Optimus, which is about the same as in G1 apparently...
