Peter Cullen was the original Voice Actor for Optimus Prime in G1 and is currently voicing Optimus in Transformers RID2015, Movies and video games. As he's 75 years old, I think he is nearing his full retirement. Who do you think will voice Optimus once the great Peter Cullen calls it an end?

Gary Chalk, hands down. He ought to be voicing Optimus Prime now.

 

I'm in the minority, but I was really fond of Neil Kaplan (RID 2001 Op).
I would pick him.

 

Gary Chalk did an amazing job when Peter was gone for many years. He gets my vote.

 

That guy from cyber missions would be a perfect candidate.

I said it many times before, but I think should Peter Cullen retire, they should get Josh Petersdorf as his replacement. Currently he's pretty well known as the voice actor for Roadhog from Overwatch. But in an interview, he mentioned how he works at the Universal parks voicing various characters, two of them happen to be Optimus and Megatron. I've actually heard his Optimus Prime impression and it sounds near identical to Peter Cullen's version. Yeah if you were compare the two, you can easily pick up a small difference, but it still is pretty close. I can even show you an example since in the video, on the behalf of a fan's request, he recreates Optimus' intro dialogue from the first film. Skip to 0:58 and watch to 1:34 for his Optimus impersonation.

 

We move forward and let optimus become one with the matrix.

Holy shit that is amazing. He has the same kind of gravely gravitas that Peter has, though Peter of course has probably 40 years of age and grandfatherly warmth over Josh. Damn. He could probably pull off Optimus as well as Greg Baldwin does Mako's characters Iroh and Aku - not quite the same, but damn close enough and with the potential to make the role into his own.

That said, not every continuity has the same movie Optimus archetype. Peter wouldn't have been able to play the young Optimus in Animated, or the more cavalier Primal in Beast Wars. Even after Peter passes, there will be other different versions of the character that wouldn't have needed his services.

Also, after watching Voltron, I'd really love to see more of Neil Kaplain as an Optimus.

Jon Bailey can do funny parody videos of Optimus, though.

 

It's simple the part of Optimus prime gets recast. it has happened before and will happen again. Gary Chalk gets my vote.

 

Except that He's in Vancouver & Transformers Nowadays are done here in the States.

So there's a lot of votes for Gary Chalk, and not to diss the guy (much love for him actually), but I actually think that my vote would be for John DiMaggio. I was watching the first season of G1 and when the younger Cullen's voice came on it really reminded me of some of John's roles.

 

I would fully understand if Peter wanted to retire, same with Frank Welker. They've both contributed plenty to the world of Transformers, among many others, Frank Welker especially. I look forward to seeing who will voice Optimus Prime and Megatron next, to carry on their legacy.

 

If not John Bailey or Gary Chalk, then yeah, this guy would be perfect. It's close enough to Cullen, but still his own.

Long may Peter Cullen reign, but he has certainly earned his retirement when he wants that to happen.

Gary Chalk or John Bailey would be the most likely candidates.

If money was no object, I'd actually love to see Liam Neeson have a go at it.
