What if GI JOE was released in 2007 and TF 1 in 2009?

Do you think that the robots would have had more screentime now that CGI technology has improved from 2007?

A bit more, sure. But I don't see how that has anything to do with GI Joe releasing 2 years ago.

It's improved? Hmm. That was quick. And no, I don't think so. It has to do with budget more than anything else.

Lack of robot screentime in TF1 was down to story pacing and budget constraints, not technology.

Yeah, tech really has nothing to do with the bot's screen time. It's the story.

That would not change how the robots looked. Most of the budget set aside for the TF's was used in figureing out how to actually MAKE the actual robot models be plausibly realistic in transforming more than anything (and so why OP is a Peterbuilt and not a cab-over, although give the guys at ILM a nod for doing the best they could for OP's truck cab chest look-alike in the movie robot). Now that there's both a bigger budget and there are pre-existing formulas and models, there are more robots that require less work (save Devestator, whose giant grinder vortex looks like it could be broken down into enough pixels to make an entire armory's worth of Ironhide guns!).

Not true. Budget constraints and tech play a big part in that. Hell, now the tech is more efficient so anything that took 30 hours to render a scene in the first movie takes less hours now.

But I'm just sayin, do you think the movie would have been different than the one we already have?

plus they've done it before, do they can do it again.

i think its a mix of Budget, and Story more than CGI capability, fo rtheir screen time. the only thing that may have been different is that the robots could have looked different, or we could have had bigger explosions, as it would cost less to pay for certain CGI elements

Let's all hope to GOD that they NEVER, EVER do a Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover like the comics!

    It's possible.

One of the problems the first Transformers films faced was that Hollywood didn't think that a "toy" movie could make it's budget back. So if GI Joe had came out first and it had made money then Hollywood would have been more willing to front a bigger budget for "toy" movies.

Of course if GI Joe had came out first and that put faith in Hollywood then maybe we would have gotten a talented director instead of the guy coming off his failure with The Island. If we had gotten a talented director then maybe they would have hired an artist that actually knew how to draw a darn Transformer.

Well the what if could go on and on. Heck we could even carry the what if to some point where I was actually happy.

Wrong. TF1 had a budget of 150 million, which is actually more than most "part 1's" of movie trilogies, hell X-Men had a budget of 75 million and Spider Man had 140 million to spend. Whether the movie was going to make money was clearly not a problem. Also, The Island kicked ass, as does Michael Bay. Oh, and I'm sorry that the Transformers in the movie don't look like boxes stacked together, I really am.
