Like when jazz scans the Solstice, do the silver car parts just magically appear on his body? Like how does that happen?

Also, is there a limit on what certain transformers can scan. We all know megatron is a big dude, so if he scanned a smart car. What would happen?

its called bio technology the very "cells" of a cybertronian are machines by themselves. They each transform to simulate glass, metal, plastic, ect.

His body would reshape itself in order to form the car parts.

Outside of the movie-verse, he'd size-change and transform into the smart car. In the movie-verse, he'd go for a different sized alt-mode.

They can only choose an alternate mode accordingly to their mass/size.

They cant reproduce something smaller or bigger so, when they trans-scan, it automatically tells them if it fits their transformation capabilities.

As the guy in the dvd2 of the first film says, the transformation of the Cybertronians takes place via a nano-molecular process, as each one of their cells is a machine unto itself. Once a cybertronian scans a machine, their atomic structure changes accordingly to imitate te machine chosen as alternate mode. Their body reshapes itself to create the replica.

That is why they look so different when in protoform mode, their body is just as it is, with no kibble or discernible parts of an alt mode showing.

But it seems, though their cells are capable of changing, they dont really alter themselves producing exact copies of the material, at a subatomic level. They just seem to create a perfect duplicate in appearance, but not in atomic structure. That means, lets say, leather in the seats of an Autobot, looks exactly like leather, but if you analyze its sub-atomic structure, you would discover it is different than that of actual leather.

Thats why glass in the windshields of the Autobots in robot mode doesnt seem to break, even when they take strong hits, because, even though it looks like glass, it is another material with an higher degree of resistance.

That's what I always figured. As for size, I don't think a Transformer can scan something significantly bigger or smaller than they are. Any (or at least most) car TFs could probably scan most cars, but not a plane or a motorcycle.
