What happens to defective Transformers (or toys in general)?

So I am returning a defective Amazon Unicron to Amazon today. It has two right wings so it can't ever have connected wings in Planet Mode. My question is, whats going to happen to that Unicron?

I am fairly confident Amazon doesn't deal in used toys, so they won't repackage it defective and send it off to someone else (to become their problem) like Walmart or other brick and mortars. Will it just end up in a landfill somewhere? Will it be melted down? What happens I wonder. Anyone know?

Is there a Transformers Toy Heaven and Hell? If there is Unicron is certainly going to hell. He is evil incarnate AND defective. Can't get much more evil than that. :p

Depends on the store. Sometimes they are sent back to manufacturer for credit. Sometimes they are kept for a bit to swap parts for other customers who have defective figures.

They go to the Island of Misfit Toys and spend the rest of their days hanging out with the bald Troll dolls, rabid robot dogs and Sixshot figures that can only turn into 5 things.

Although the farm response was he-larious I am really honestly curious. Amazon doesn't do "replacement parts" so they wont get repackaged. I might email them and ask. My bet is either melted down for the component plastic or simply thrown out.

They are repurposed. For example: Skyfall, Landquake, Breakaway, Topspin, or Heatwave get melted into a new combined form equipped with batteries and Maximize!

When I worked at Toy's R Us, there was something called "Reverse Inventory Flow". We would box up returns that were evaluated as un-sellable and send them back through the distribution chain. I'm not sure what happened once it got back to the warehouse, but I imagine that "RIF" items would be bundled up by manufacturer and sent back to their makers for evaluation. If enough of the same toy comes back with the same problem, they can decide to make a running change if possible, or issue a product recall if it is a dangerous problem.

That all being said, I used to raid returned products for extra weapons. Good times!

gah!...I like your answer better than mine!!....I guess that's what I get for trying to be funny :p

Seriously though, I have no idea....probably sent back to Hasbro would be my guess....retailer, be it brick and mortar or online, gets credit for said item.

We do this at Babies R Us too. We label "RGD" though...not sure what that stands for. But I've always wondered what happens at the other end.

What is to become of Kranix? The thought of such a desireable Mini-Con being tossed into the smelter is quite unsettling.
