Ever wonder what happened to Sparkplug between G1 seaon 2 and TF:TM? I know some people theorize that he "retired" and was living a quiet life away from the war, but I find that hard to believe. Personally, I think he got killed in a Decepticon attack, which would explain why Spike involved himself so heavily in the war, to the point where he was away from his wife and kid and serving on an Autobot moonbase.

Thoughts?

 

I just always assumed he died of a heart attack or something. He wasn't old enough at the end of season 2 to die of old age in 20 years, so that is most likely. Had he been killed because of the war, I think Spike would've made some sort of reference to it during season 3.

 

He saw Daniel and killed himself.

 

Maybe he's in a home? He's gotta be like 70 by then.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he was dead too.


Maybe after the movie, he spent all those years before Victory rebuilding Wheeljack!

I'm going to go with Heart Attack.

 

In the DW comic universe which is kind of a spinoff of the cartoon universe, he dies in the Ark II crash.

 

Let's combine the two, Sparkplug suffers a major heart attack during a heated decepticon attack, after witnessing what he thought was Spike's death. After picking himself up, Spike sees his father gripping his chest and collapsing to the ground, grabs the closest autobot (Sideswipe) and gets him to take his father to the nearest hospital. As Sideswipe speeds away from the battle field, he's unknowingly followed by Buzzsaw, who transmits the events back to Soundwave for reporting to Megatron.

Knowing what an emotional blow it would be for the Autobots to loose one of their closest human allies (and thus harder for the autobots to obtain the resources they need), Megatron orders an all out assault on the hospital, calling in both the Stunticons and the Constructicons to finish off the puny fleshling and anyone who gets in the way.

 

He won the lotto and retired to his own private island.

 

i remember someone saying a long time ago that in the comics there was a part where they almost set it up to make it look like sideswipe took him out back and offed him. how close to reality is that?

 

he found love in raoul and became estranged from spike and the bots, who were homophobic. tracks was left heart broken.

 

He caught Spike, Carly, and Bumblebee having a three-way, and swore revenge on all Transformers. Unfortunately, the writers could never write his revenge episode since season 4 only lasted three episodes.



Seriously, I like Dreamwave's story behind his absence.

 

Sparkplug, Raoul, and Chip all volunteered for the original prototype for Targetmasters: the Bulletmasters.

It didn't end well.

In the Dreawave Continuity after a massive battle all the decepticons were captured, The autobots built a giant ship to go back to cybertron (Ark 2) A few select humans were selected to go with them to cybertron. Sparkplug was among them. Presumably Spike stayed behind because of Carly and his newborn son. Due to some jerk in the government the Ark 2 exploded and all the transformers fell and were frozen in the artic circle (the humans all died), till they were uncovered and sold at auction a few years later. All this is explained in the first Dreamwave mini series.

 

Short Version: he got blowed up on the Ark II (as T16Skyhopp said)

Longer Version: Following the defeat of the Decepticons, the Autobots and humans built the Ark II in order to return to Cybertron. Sparkplug and a team of scientists were to accompany the Autobots (and imprisoned Decepticons) to Cybertron, but the Ark II exploded moments after launch. Sparkplug (naturally) was killed.

But the thing is, it's not an "explanation" as to why Sparkplug was absent from post-Season 2 G1 because the comics are a different continuity from the cartoon.
