[I just thought I'd start a thread for all of us Radicons to share how we got into this niche of a niche for a hobby. I'll start us off . . . ]

. . . loving the Alternators that I bought (up to that point only Smokescreen, Sideswipe, Hound, and Dead End had came out), seeing people create customs from them, and never feeling comfortable creating 3-D artwork (despite getting good grades in the few classes I had in 3-D artwork) finally drew me into customs. This very forum (when it was a Yahoo! Group) influenced me a great deal seeing people's work there as well. :)

I've been kitbashing since I was a tot. I THINK the earliest ones I can recall doing were cutting the HUGE Autobot and Decepticon symbols out of the fold-up-catalogs and TAPING them strategically onto the GoBots Thrustor and Command Center so that they could be proper Transformer bases (He-Man and Skeletor had GraySkull and Snake Mt, Metro and Tryppy hadn't been born yet, the robots NEEDED a place to hang)

In adult hood painting Battletech minis into TF color-schemes begat painting Minibots into Military-color schemes, which begat me scratch buiding a large-scale fully transforming Brawl, which begat "Gundam Force Starscream" and it was all downhill from there.

I saw Lobo's Alt Soundwave reshell....and I thought, Oh man, you can do that with these?....I've been bashing ever since....my old model car skills helped me along the way, and I learned a lot from fellow members/bashers.

The movie got me back into everything TF related but I have been painting stuff(car models, gundams, 40K) since I was 10.

I was offered a position on staff, as the mod of the Radicons. At the time my exposure to TF Customs was minimal, and I honestly had no interest, but I wanted to be on staff, so I said, "sure!" Then I saw Viagra Prime and Lobo's works, and TheDevastator's and others, and I said, "man, I've got to try making a custom of my own, these are SO cool!" and here we are.

Mine came as a result of alt/binaltech completionism (one of every varient but not, say a BT & alt hound but yes to yellow and blue Tracks), refusal to have duplicate characters especially when they dont remind me of whom they are ment to be ie yellow Tracks, and inspiration of what can be done by others on this site. From there it snowballed by thinking "hey, maybe this one will look cool with this head and these colours and Ill call him ......." and so on.
Horrible addictive and expensive hobby this one - love it!

My bashing started with a simple repaint of Powermaster Prime's red eyes to blue('91 or so). From then on I've done everything from minor touch-ups to extensive mods. It's really quite fulfilling to see the difference that you can make on a bot with just a little patience and time.

I guess when I first became a member of this board. And after seeing customs from the likes of Ptitvite, Viagra Prime, SQ7, plowking, REDLINE, Jin Satome, vector, and the list goes on. Thats when I started realized that hey I could do this as well and now I'm on the verge on creating my version of Cosmos at this moment, but I'm taking my time on it. So thanks to the members and moderators out there for inspiring me to try and do a kitbashing project as well as giving me advice on how to do it.

I'd say my customizing addiction came from the frustration that Hasbro was only gonna make me 3 of the 6 seekers that I wanted so I decided hey I'll make my own Thundercracker, Thrust, and Dirge. I started by practicing on the extra Magnus I had from buying 2 of the Target 2-packs that contained UM vs Skywarp. I made a pretty decent Nemesis from him and I decided to get to work on Thundercracker, which I'm also very happy with. My next major Project came from having a red Rumble and no blue version of him. after all my full bodied repaints I decided I'd pick up the art of the minor repaint/head mod route to fill my need to have more alts.

So in a nutshell I started customizing cuz Hasbro's many repaints didn't quite cut it for me so I took things into my own hands. I can pretty much thank Hasbro and TFCC for making Thundercracker too expensive for me to buy and forcing me to buy some paints and do what I previously thought I'd never do, paint my TOYS!

I've been a fan since day one, but we were too poor to buy them when I was little, and you can't buy Transformers with food stamps (believe me, I tried!). I got the tar beat out of me when I was 6 for stealing a Jazz from Montgomery Wards!

I had been collecting for a few years, when in 2006 I saw TF Masters unfinished Powermaster Prime. Love at first sight. I've been a basher ever since.

It all started for me after seeing the 2003 OTFCC Sideswipe and Sunstreaker. I wasn't about to pay such a huge pricetag for them, so I made my own with bashed headsculpts. That then snowballed into bashing updates for all '84 TFs, which is still snowballing to include '85, '86, special characters, etc.

47 down, 75+ more already planned, and new plans being added all the time. Expected completion: 2525 AD.

I've been doing this stuff for ages, Building in general that is. Customizing TF's first started when I wanted to see my BW characters show accurate. continued from there.

Plowking made a request in the sig thread. Being a fellow Snow plower,
I took his request. Ended up building a friendship with him, Commissioned him to bash Alt Nemesis Predaking for me.
After much talking and seeing NP finished I decide to complete the Nemesis Predacons.
I have also been inspired by a great number of members here, SQ7, Redline, AutbotX23, Viagra Prime, frenzy_rumble,
Warmachine, Ptitvite, Lobo & Lucs just to name a few.
But really I have to totally blame Plowking. *shakes fist* :lol

My 'bashing goes way back to when I finally got my long-sought after yellow Bumblebee. Back in the day, when the Minibots were originally available, I wound up getting a yellow Cliffjumper and a red Bumblebee - I couldn't find the right coloured ones (not like I had a wealth of toyshops to search, and heck, I was eight). Later on, actually managed to pick up a yellow Bumblebee, so I had a spare one.
I'd been painting model aeroplanes and such for a while, so I decided to have a crack at repainting my now-spare red BB into a new character. So he got a couple of coats of black enamel, and some gold and red detailing, and became my first fan-character, Hardshell. Soon after, I got a bit more daring and repainting my non-spare yellow CJ into the right colour.

For me it was back in the '80s when I tried to make some of my G1 cars into their Cybertron modes. I still have a Mirage & Sideswipe that have been only half finished for *GULP* 20 years.:(

I tried my hand at customizing Star Wars figs for a while but only the vintage '70s-'80s stuff.

As far as ALTs are concerned, once I bought Streak I figured that he needed a proper Bluestreak paint job(Diaclone version), and it's been non-stop ever since.

And as someone said earlier it's partly financial (didn't want to spend the $$ on a Classics TCracker) and partly because I feel this strange need to re-create (in ALT/MP and Classics form) as many of the G1 bots as possible.
