    G5

    It's the 5th show continuity that's been widely released.

    G1=G1,G2,BW,BM.

    G2=RID

    G3=Unicron Trilogy

    G4=Animated

    G5=Prime,Rescue Bots.

    G1 is... G1

    but BW is G1 too! So is BM!
    Yet a G2 exists so clearly we call RiD G3.

    Then Armada and the other two brings us into G4 of course.

    Leading to G5, Animated.

    Which means Prime would be G6 if we ignore the movies as a Generation since they life outside of Gens anyway, they lived thru G5, G6 and will probably be there for G7.

    Prime is G6 in my head, no doubt.

    I think 8 due to how close Prime and the other past shows RID,A/E/C,and Animated are to G1 in some ways.

    I'm gonna have to say G5 as well. Fifth show continuity. Man, Transformers continuity is a mess.

    G5 I suppose, I wonder how long it'll be before we get a G6 continuity?

    IDW has similar characters, but a different base story. Technobots are some of the first guys we see in the story, and they don't exist in '80's G1 until much later in the story.

    g3 Prime

    I do NOT count any of the anime stuff, so this is how I personally see it, if I had to name it.

    I'm aware of the story differences; but I consider it a different continuity in the family of G1, just like how Marvel comics is usually considered G1 but there are still story/character differences. But then again, BW is being counted separately, so it kind of makes sense to also count IDW separately.

    G1: Transformers
    G2: G2
    G3: BW/BM/RID
    G4: Unicron Trilogy
    G5: Bayformers
    G6: TFA
    G7: Allign Continuity.

    Sorry I don't count IDW as its own generation since it's never been the main focus of the franchise.

    Either 5, 6, 9, 10, or 11

    G1: G1/Beast Wars/Beast Machines
    G2: RID
    G3: Unicron Trilogy
    G4: Movieverse
    G5: Animated
    G6: Prime

    If you don't count the movies, then Prime would be G5

    OR:

    G1: G1
    G2: Beast Wars
    G3: Beast Machines
    G4: RID
    G5: Armada
    G6: Energon
    G7: Cybertron
    G8: Animated
    G9: Prime

    If you count the movies, then Prime would be G10 or G11

    I'd actually consider the 'generations' to be the times when the core of the property has been rebooted, not the actual iterations of the franchise itself. in the way that the marvel, sunbow elements of G1 are all 'generation one', G2 is also part of the same continuety family, but moreso is the same overall concept of transformers. In fact it doesn't actually do ANYTHING new! While BW is part of G1 in fiction, the actual core concept of the brand and how it was sold was changed, and I'd somewhat consider it the second generation of the Transformers franchise, despite being intrinsically linked to G1. RID, Then Armada reflected the next shift, back towards the original roots of the transformers concept, albeit with a modern (at the time) twist. Could be defined as 'Animeformers' but I think that's unfair. Again we rebooted just what Transformers reresented in the minds of kids and what was available on the shelves, making that the 3rd generation.Then the Movie development started, and the Movies, with a ot of its concepts (allspark, the core cast, etc) affected both the development of Animated (despite its far more G1 influence) and Prime. All of these shows represent a tightening of what the brand is with the shift of creative control back to hasbro. That's your 4th Generation.

    So 4 Generations, 4 distinct shifts in what Transformers actually represents to it's target audience. What do you reckon?

    1st generation = G1, G2
    2nd generation = BW, BM, BW2, BWneo
    3rd generation = RID, Unicron Trilogy
    4th generation = Movies, Animated, Prime
