I was just thinking.... why do newer transformers not get small guns. Hell, most TF's don't even come with a gun anymore, yet they have peg holes in their hands. I remember the good old days when they gave a constructicon a pistol. Most newer TF's get some super huge mega blaster or missle launcher that they can't even hold up. Why give them holes in their hands at all if they're not going to come with a weapon?

I miss the smaller weapons. sigh....

    any thoughts?

Once again, I refer to the great philosophers of the Wu-Tang Clan, who teach us that Cash Rules Everything Around Me.

Small guns cost money and are probably a pain in the ass, and Hasbro's marketing term probably told them that gimmicks were a better thing to invest in to increase sales.

choking hazard? Remember child safety laws. they're a lot tougher then they were 10-20 years ago.

the alternators all have really disproportionately small guns, which really irritates me.

Yeah, I think the main reason is the safety hazards for smaller children.

Alts are a bit different since they are intended for older kids (or us adults).

A rare few still slip through. Both Cybertron Scattorshots came with guns, and other weapons have been around like CD Hot Shot's dagger and deluxe Unicron's claws, not to mention how many missile launchers are out there that the figures come with. But to answer the question, they all have pegholes not only for the appearance, but also to let you swap weapons around so most figures can use most weapons that have been produced with figures since 2002, including Minicons that become weapons and ones meant to be swapped around like the Omnibot and Terrorcon weapons.

Irritates me too. Especially Alt Hound's gun, that thing is a fucking Derringer.

    Probably a combination of things:

. Child safety/choking hazard laws prohibit parts of a certain size.
. Hasbro avoids weapons that can't store in or on the alt mode nowadays
. Maybe kids think small guns that don't do anything aren't kewl

Gun size is about the only thing I like about Alternators, anymore. I hate the super soakers most of the regular figures get, ut current toy laws require that accessories be large enough to be easily caught in the esophegus, and completely block the windpipe. (depending on which way it goes down)

Bumblebee doesn't get a gun, because he's sucked out loud, ever since 1984.

    And, one more thing:
You can do a lot, iwth a little styene tubing, and some paint.

That's why I added a knockoff Combaticon's gun onto his hood's right shoulder, and gave him a 1/6 scale FN-FAL with removable clip. :D  His official pistol is now his "holdout gun" in case he gets captured.

I'm not sure about the whole choking/safety law thing... we've seen small accessories and toy guns on many lines in recent years... certainly lots of stuff smaller than the current guns TFs are packaged with... to say nothing of the missles. Okay, so G1 combiner pistols were small... minute even. But what about all the medium sized guns? I'd love it if we started getting sidearms the size of G1 Predacon guns. I have a few of those, and they rule. They seem to fit most recent TF fists as well.

Also, if a giant translucent orange missile-launcher can be "stored" in an alt mode by just pegging it onto the top or side of the vehicle somewhere, I'm sure they could come up with a way to store more oldschool guns even better. :)

I must say I hate the gimmicky energon launchers and stuff we've been getting, but we've been seeing those for a long time. Might as well accept it... gimmicks are for kids, and we're stuck with 'em. If we want our robots to carry mini-assault rifles, we should buy Gundams I guess. :)

I'm not sure if the child safety choking issue is that big a part of it. Guns the Constructicons and combiners came with are about the same size as say, Star Wars blasters that come with figures.
And Alt Skids' gun is even worse than Prowl's!
