I've been thinking of selling some of my collection and been using Ebay completed auctions as a price gauge on what the rough going market should be. I noticed that for some of my figs, the prices have gone down recently and now I'm hesitant to sell it. I'm wondering what factors changes the prices and if I wait, will these prices eventually go up?

The figs I want to sell are mainly CHUG.

    Demand and hype most likely.

If you get more than retail for them, then what's the problem? If you want to sell, just sell. As far as the prices go, when a movie comes out, it brings new fans who will overspend and artificially inflate prices. After about a year or two, prices go back to sane levels. At any rate, make sure you link your sales thread to your sig, easier to reach more people that way.

Well yeah, naturally. But these are older figs that really shouldn't see too much movement one way or the other I would assume. I've seen $10-$20 price swings on some figs. Odd.

Not complaining, just curious as to what changes prices. I've seen discussions on this board I swore change the prices in some figs :)  Thanks for the advice re: sales thread.

I've found that with ebay it's availability of the specific figure. If a bunch are listed they go for less, if only 1 is available then the price inflates(bidding wars or if someone wants it bad enough a higher bin price). Simple supply and demand I guess.

For the last 7 years, bad movies have driven prices up.

Now we get a break until the 4th bad movie comes out.

A release of a third party add on will inflate price. Finding out that said product was released in less amount. Drives it up. Fluctuations in the collector community as far as number of new collectors. And honestly sometimes people simply just jack up the price. The only options a collector has would be to be patient enough for prices to drop to a better level, or to bite the bullet and pay way too much.

Is it safe to assume that you're wanting top return on this?

As far as classics go, the last two rounds (universe and RTS/Generations) have caused the older releases to shoot up as new collectors come into the game, and the latest are hot and at retail, but I have seen a bit of a drop both times when it has gone on hiatus. Expect classic style figures to jump up again if/when we see another round come to retail (not sure I would call the FOC stuff Classics though).

Well I just would like to try to maximize my profits :)  I don't need to sell any of them, but ideally would like to sell them more for than what I paid. I know it's not realistic in some cases. I bought some on impulse buys and they weren't good value in the end. Seems like timing is everything so I'll just try to be patient to find the right time

A friend of mine is slowly getting a Classics collection going, and I figured I could mention your sales thread, unless you were shooting for three digits a fig.

    Ebay:
When I'm looking to buy a figure I will always want to know the following:

    - does it have all of the original weapons and/or accessories and/or paperwork?
    - are the joints tight?
    - does it have any factory errors in the paint or assembly of the figure?
    - are there any scratches or dents?
    - is there any yellowing?
    - are the joints tight?
    - does it come from a non-smoking home?
    - what have been the going prices for this figure for the past couple of months?
    - is a reissue or repaint coming out soon or at least planned?

I think the absurd hype for the modern classics has gone down a bit. In no reality should that piece of **** Universe Ironhide go for more than a few quid.
