I was just looking at my season 1 shelf and was thinking, what the he'll does Hasbro have against the Dinobots? Sure we have a couple of Grimlocks, but what about the rest of the guys?

I could only think that hasbro is getting lazy. Listen Hasbro, you can make more then cars, planes and tanks. It's ok. Trust me, people will buy it.

I could understand the problems with combiners and possibly even the dumb arguments against making tape decks/microscopes, but if I am not mistaken, kids still like playing with Dinosaurs.

It's not only dinobots. There are still some characters unreleased into CHUG form, such as Trailbreaker or I believe Hoist.

Yeah I missed those, but have nothing against them. Would love to see classic ones though.

Seems like hasbro is shying away from anything different in the classics line. Megaton is as close as we got to different in that line. I think they don't make a mold they cannot recycle for like 3 other figures.

The funny thing is that the classic line loses it's originality with nothing but planes, cars and tanks.

Animated has a particular design aesthetic that, while awesome, stands out when compared to other lines.

Also, dinosaurs are always awesome, and robots are always awesome, so I think the market for them would be just fine. If anything, they probably don't fall into Hasbro's current trend of releasing figures that they can repaint/retool.

Unless they started digging into Beast Wars II/Neo and/or the Dinocassettes.

From what I think, the only way to get a complete set of Dinobot toys would only happen if there is a tie-in cartoon or a Legends class half-fucked looking box set.

It just doesn't make sense to release 5 Classics Dinobots on the due to 2 reasons:

    1. Grimlock is their representative and must always be available on the shelves with the other Dinobots. Think, Optimus Prime.

    2. 5 Deluxe/Voyager class Dinobots on the shelves at once is overkill. Even if they released them gradually in different waves and toy lines, they would have to keep releasing Grimlock.

    Make sense or not?

    it doesn't sell much?

tons of pegwarmers on their last dinobots, animated.

what they need to do is to package them all in one box and maybe do repaints of them all black like prime.... silver gold, i'd buy em'. repaint call it something nice in a comic or cartoon. whatever. i want them.

They're all too indiscernible for them to sell well. You want four deluxes (or five voyagers, whatever floats your boat) to go on shelves, all with dinosaur forms, and similar paint jobs? That's not happening any time soon. Developing four or five new molds is too expensive to have parents (ie: potential buyers) mash them all in the same group of "red and silver dinosaurs", especially when there are little to no repaint options.

This, and Hasbro is just not big on "beast formers" at the moment.

For being "against" Dinobots, we sure seem to have gotten a lot:
Classics Grimlock, Classic Dinobot minicons, Masterpiece Grimlock, Animated Dinobots, Powercore Dinobots, Repainted Dinobot minicons

I know they aren't the "original guys" remade, but I don't see that as reason Hasbro is against the sub group.

I gotta disagree. Just in season 1 alone you had so much originality:
    - insects
    - a gun
    - tape recorder
    - cassettes
    - construction vehicles
    - dinosaurs

The authors were kinda boring though.

Everybody saying "We can't have 4 similar-looking toys on the shelf at the same time," well, that argument doesn't fly. Release one when the line comes back after the movie, release another one a few waves later, then you know they'll find a reason to rest or slow the Generations stuff at some point, release another one when it comes back, and so on. They could practically be done by now if they'd tried. And I don't think that Grimlock would need to be on the shelves every time one was released. They've released the other seekers without a Starscream on the shelf every time.

I also don't think that the Animated Dinobots shelf-warmed any more than other figures from that series. At least I didn't notice them as standing out any more than the rest.

And skip the Dinobot-like releases. I don't want Dinobot minicons, I want the Dinobots!

The Seekers, in stark contrast to the Dinobots, all share one mold. That means they're far cheaper to pump out, due to far lower development costs. Much fewer sales are necessary to make a profit for the Seekers. The Dinobots are the polar opposite to this.

My comment was in reference to the poster stating that they would have to have a Grimlock on the shelves every time they released another Dinobot. I wasn't commenting about the costs or repaint possibilities, although I am aware of them (the latter, at least. No idea on the development costs).

Um... I'm pretty sure there aren't allot, if any toy lines, that don't have at least 1 Dinobot homage or reference in it.

Beast Wars had a character who's name was Dinobot.
Beast Machines had an entire sub line of Dinobots.
And can't remember if this was in Beast Wars or part of the BM sub line but they came out with repaints of Beast Wars toys to represent each of the original Dinobots. Even using a couple figures that for the states were new molds entirely just because we never got the original version of the Japanese only characters they were based on. (At least I don't recall seeing any outside the Dinobots.)

R.I.D. though not a Dinobot exactly did reuse Grimlock's name for one of the Build Team so I'm counting him.

Armada came out with a few Dinobot Mini-cons someone else mentioned towards the end of the toy line. I never actually saw them though so maybe they came out at the start of Energon's toy line.

Energon also had Dinobot homages who were all drones.

I believe Cybertron had some Jungle Planet homages to the Dinobots.

Animated Dinobots. 3 who are actually characters and a 4th who was homaged in one episode of the cartoon.

    Power Core combiners Dinobots.

Universe Dinobot who could potentially be repainted into Grimlock again.

Masterpiece Grimlock. And didn't they have plans to make Masterpiece figures for all the original Dinobots at some point?

Also the Wal Mart Exclusive Fan Wank Bumblebee has the Dinobot insignia from the Beast Machines toy line on him.

I think the Titanium toy line even had a toy of War Within Dynobot Grimlock.

I'm sure there's some I forgot. Point is there's more love for Dinobots than ANYONE else. I don't get why people even like them so much the original characters were idiots. I prefer BW Dinobot and R.I.D. Grimlock over all the others.

At this point I probably need a Masterpiece Grimmy to fill in the chug line. So much for Sludge, Slag, Swoop, and Snarl.... woot, I named them all! Me wants all 5 now!
