Personally, I hate them, people just keep on playing with them without buying the figures. I think Hasbro/Takara should at least cover the "Try Me" buttons with something like clingwrap or molded transparent plastic so the figures won't get damaged.

It's worse with role play toys. Those poor bumblebee arm cannons, unnessary rapid fire and any licensed foam sword you try to buy gets bent and ripped by jerks "playing" in the aisle.

Even on leaders there are griefers who fiddle around with the mechanisms and try to break things off. It's all quite necessary though for hasbro to sell electronic toys. I get around it buy either buying online, or getting leaders as soon as they are out of the case.

Personally I'm happy they're there ! I picked up a Leader Starscream back in the summer when it first arrived here in store, and it was the version with the limited speech, only saying two single words, yeah, bummer. Well, the other day while I was out looking around, I noticed one on the shelf that had the sticker "I Speak English" on the outside of the box, so I said what the heck, tried him out, and whaddya know, he said the entire two phrases instead of those two single words ! I immediately grabbed him and took him home, and I returned the other one, not to mention it was on rollback, so I saved $13. So, there are benefits to having that window there ;)

Seriously? I've never even given them the slightest thought. They're so inconsequential.

It's handy if a toy had a running change to the electronics like Universe Onslaught & ROTF Prime, as it means you can pick out one with the 'correct' voice/sound/etc.

Actually, hearing his voice via the try-me window pretty much sold me on that toy, so from a marketing perspective they're a good idea. :D

I love them. Most of my colelction is boxed right nwo so I can happily sit in my TF room going round all the toys activating therir sounds through the window. In fact, during a very childish 5 minute spell a few days ago, I had both my Roadbuster and normal animated Ultra Magnuses having a chattering competition. When they said the same phrase at the same time it amused me far more than it should have.

It's the best feature of ROTF leader class Megatron. I kept mine MISB (for some weird reason) and it's great pressing the "I AM MEGATRON!" button over and over again :D

I've never been in a situation where I was left to buy a sub-par toy because of the try-me window. I could see how that could be very frustrating though. If the last one on the shelf was damaged or had a dead battery because of that window it would be a shame. I have played with toys I had no intention of buying because of a 'try-me' option though.

One thing I can think of as a solution is to make a demo display. I know its not common for action figures, but anything with electronics or fancy selling features could have one setup as a demo. That way one can be the designated abusee.

I think it is cool to be able to sample something before you buy it. I can understand why some people might find it frustrating, but it has helped me numerous times with toys I have bought for my nieces.

I do not hate the try me windows. I hate the immature jackasses that abuse it or try and break the toy cause they can etc etc.
I have benefitted from them thought with universe Onslaught. Thanks to the try me window i was able to make sure i found one with the extended siren :D .

Unless it's the last one, I'll usually go for the ones in the back row when it comes to transformers with a electronic gimmicks. (Less chance of the figure being damage and/or battery dead)
