If we're talking about the G1 cartoon, I honestly don't know what happened to Sparkplug and Chip after they were last seen in season 2.

I thought Sparkplug fought in the Vietnam War? I think it was in the Marvel comics it was stated as such.

 

Chip would have appeared in the Headmasters series - there is an animation model out there of an older Chip. So he's still around in 2011 where that series was set. I'm unclear of his role, though.

He probably ended up working for the EDC maintaining their hybrid Earth / Cybertronian tech mainframes.

 

They both saw what Kiss Players is, and died of shock.

chip went on to work for IT in a non-profit organization that specialized in the research of ancient rome, specifically the culture surrounding gladiator competitions

 

In an example of truly cruel irony, Chip was crippled when Ravage tackled him through that window.

Wasn't there some comic where Chip develops cybernetic leg-braces, and that technology is adapted into the Exo-suits? Or am I going insane?

 

I would've guessed Sparkplud died of a heart attack, and Chip lost a lifelong battle with a degenerative muscular or spinal disease. Yup, it's a sad world.
