Out of 10, what do you rate the Marvel G1 run? US and UK-only comics.

I've only read the first 10 issues thus far plus 2 UK-only comics. I'll eventually read them all. They're okay, right now. Aside from Warrior School, they've been kind of boring. Hopefully they get better

Rating the entire series as a whole is pretty difficult, especially since there is such a varying degree of writers, artists, editor's etc...

I voted 8 because I think the good outweighed the bad and I feel that it was really one of the strongest pieces of Transformers fiction out there for years.

For years it was what I considered true G1 and it's also the reason why I came to love G1 instead of hating it like I used to.

So it gets a 9+ out of me.

    10.

It's the definitive Transformers saga, leaving everything else in its wake.

It had the best characterisation, the best plotting, the best action... sure it had faults, but as a collected body of work, no other TF media franchise has come close.

Light years better than its cartoon counterpart!

    9/10

It only lost a point because there was a horrible run of comics which were nothing more than toy ads.

    7. I actually have the complete run. Some of the earlier ones wasn't that great.

I would give the UK run a 9/10 and the US run a 7/10 so I scored them 8/10 on the poll as an average between the two

It does get better. Especially after issue 56 when Furman takes over. This was him in his prime.

the back half of Budiansky's run was pretty bad. I'd probably give the whole thing between a 6 and a 7... 1st third or so a 6, middle third about a 4 and last third an 8

The Marvel US/UK G1 stuff is my favorite G1 TF continuity but I can't, in all honesty, rate it anything higher than a 6. Furman's run was excellent and set the definitive TF mythos for me, while Senior, Wildman and some of the UK artists did a great job. However, I thought pretty much all of Budiansky's run was garbage, capped off by the atrocious stretch from issues 40 - 55.

If I could split the ratings, I'd give Furman's US run and the UK comics a 9/10, only losing a point because some of the UK artists weren't very good. Budiansky's run would get a 2/10.

Not really his fault. He was getting burned out due to the increasing pressure he was under to put more and more new characters in, explain Hasbro's new toy gimmicks (Pretenders, Micromasters etc.) and still write a continuing coherent story.

It wasn't due to imcompetence or laziness or anything. He really did try.

i'm not really dogging him when i say that, although there was some serious silliness ala Micromasters going Pro wrestling and Shockwaves tropical rocket ship (loved it as a base underwater, but flying THE ISLAND out into space was where the suspension of disbelief got a tad shaky.

Yeah, those are two of the lowest low points of the series for sure. The Micromaster wrestling has to be the worst issue, I think.

The UK run and the things Simon did for the US run is a strong ten, what Bob did is more like a four.

I'm going to say a 7. It had its ups and downs, its fair share of really terrible stories, and some really awesome things. But, as a whole, I prefer it to the cartoon, and the "Regeneration" series, but less than the current MTMTE series.
