Hello team - just got a Metalforce Convoy and I'm trying to determine if it's legit or not. Didn't pay much for it, so I don't care either way, but I'd like to know for sure.

    Some info from the 'net:
    http://www.microforever.com/metalforceoptimus.htm

What leads me to believe it's a KO:
    - I know a KO exists for this guy
    - The figure itself is a total piece of crap - about 1% as cool as I thought it would be
    - It seems to be made from what I can only describe as shampoo bottle plastic
    - I thought it would be solid, not hollow (like the small PVCs)
    - It came with a bunch of extra uncut parts with the mold residue still intact

What leads me to believe it's real:
    - It came in a very legit-looking Timehouse box with Takara markings and stickers, and I think the KO came in a plastic bag
    - It doesn't really look like the KO (seen here near the bottom of the page)
    - The head detailing on the KO is terrible and has painted eyes - mine are light-piped and blue

Finally, a pic. What's the verdict?

I'd guess it's real - I got mine years ago and it's guns came in exactly the same shape as yours did. In fact, I think the instructions say something about trimming the plastic if I'm not mistaken.

TF@TM's review of Metalforce Convoy does seem to back up S3K's opinion.

It's legit. Funnily enough the KO came with pre-cut gun parts and only one extra hand.

    Thanks for the help, everyone.

Wow, staggering disappointment is the only thing I can think to say about this guy. The good news is that I got it for less than $50 shipped, so that eases the blow a bit.

Thanks again - as usual, TFW members continue to be great resources for help & info!

Yeah. Years ago when I bought him I (VERY STUPIDLY) paid somewhere around $240. I kick myself for that to this very day.

Yeah, I'm glad I got the metallic version for a low price as well. Definitely not worth the original price.

Never even heard of this thing, but, damn, those horrible gummie guns alone put me off entirely and I collect Primes! Guess my collection will be one Prime shorter. Too bad, so sad.

It's not too bad once you trim away the excess plastic and put the gun together. And I've noticed some variation in quality. Some seem to be made of weaker plastic so they don't stand very straight or some have poor paint aps. But if you get a good one, they're pretty nice. I have both the metalic and toon color versions and I like them both.

That's exactly what I was thinking... I bet this thing was considered to be pretty darn cool before MP-01 rolled into town.

There was a time where $200 was a really cheap price for the guy. I remember the metallic version going for $900 the first week he was released. It is funny how one man's trash is another man's treeasure. I actully consider my Metalforce Primes to be my favorite items in my collection. And I have a very LARGE collection. I think the metalforce Primes are unique and the sculpting is the most accurate Prime has been to his cartoon counterpart. If only the plastic quality and articulation was better.

I really like the SHBM Galvatron as well. It is another unique japanese vinyl transformer. I think its cool.

By the way, there are very few people who know more about this collectible than me and I can assure you with certainty that is not a KO the original poster bought

I had one of those. I got it free in an auction with God Ginrai. Never knew what it was and ended up giving it away with some stuff I sold. It may have been a knock off, cuz it came in a plain white box with a black Autobot symbol on it. The only accessory was the gun I think. And I completely agree it sucked majorly

Slugslinger, yours was a KO. They came in white boxes and had some mold deformities.

At the time he was cool because he was a huge g1 acurate prime. He came out around season 2 or 3 of beast wars when there were almost no car tf's available.
