What do you do?

What do you do when a limted figure/toys physical quality isn't up to standards?

  1. Take the figure/toy back to the retailer (May not have the exact figure still).

I just wanted to find out what the rest of peers do when they open a highly anticipated toy/figure and it production quality lets them down. By production quality, I mean parts may not function exactly as they should.

I would still keep it and try to hide it when it's displayed by posing it as best as I can.

I would hang on to it and make the best of the situation. If I find another marked down I may buy another. But that's a big may.

I keep the figure and try to work around the problem/fix it as best as I can.

For example, my Neckbreaker has a loose right hip. I've tried the Future trick to tighten it, but it doesn't seem to have taken all that well. That said, it has absolutely no impact on the combined mode of Hercules. My First Edition Bumblebee has a loose left shoulder, which I'll get to applying the Future trick to eventually and hoping it takes well eventually. For now, I'm still in having fun with playing with the toy mode.

Depends how bad it is and if I can fix it myself. But not once have I ever actually returned a toy to the store.

If it's just an annoyance, I'll just keep it.
If it prevents a feature/gimmick/transformation step, return it and get a new one.
When I first got Animated Prowl, the swivelling joint for his arm swiveled wrong and so I returned him for Bumblebee. Later I got Samurai Prowl and found out that I just had to swivel it back. -.-
Oh well, Samurai Prowl is a better figure IMO.

Depends on how serious the flaw is, and how soon it manifests.

Most TFs are fine, and any breakages are due to my oversized gorilla hands clumsily breaking it, but the Prince of Persia Sands of Time McFarlane 10cm figs? OMG I must have returned Dastan a million times and in the end I just gave up.

I can't actually work out how they even contemplated releasing a toy line so utterly ruddled with QC flaws.

Only times I have returned figures is when they had a glued joint (tried a few tricks to fix that one before giving up), or missing parts (ordered ROTF Jetfire and it was missing a tailfin). Haven't really had any fit together poorly, and loose joints are par for the course for me.

Really limited one with a bad QC problem, I would probably hold out till I found another one, and then return it. Haven't really had any issues finding a second figure yet.

I will call Hasbro and see if I can get a replacement on it like I did 1 time. I had a generations figure and he was broke out of the package and hasbro replaced it with a cash reward and I sent the figure back to them.

I've usually don't try returning it to a retailer or Hasbro. Hasbro always sees replacing broken toys as a loss, and so do retailers, especially collector stores. The only time I returned something to Hasbro was the San Diego Comic Con Optimus Prime gun.

Depends on what we're talking here.

$12 Hasbro toy, not a big deal. I'll keep it and make do.

$30 Takara figure, I may try to talk about it with the retailer, since they're not so easily available. Probably wouldn't make a big fuss about it, overall, though. But it depends on the severity of the issue. Loose joints are a non-issue. Glued parts that shouldn't be glued, I may say something.

$200+ Hot Toys figure. Return. Give me another one. Now.
