has there ever been any images of what optimus primal looked like pre beast wars?
Yeah from the 2006 Botcon series.
yeah, but that design is more based on the one cybertron toy, so its not "technically" optimus.
Yes it is. That's Optimus Primal. There's a botcon toy of that.
According to the Transformers: Ultimate Guide book I have that predated the 2006 BotCon Timelines comic they say that Primal was a monster truck, and Megatron was a battle station.
yes, but its just a remold of crumplezone from cybertron..so its not really optimus....
That really doesn't matter.
Damnit, thanks for reminding me I want that Optimus!
Except it is.
That is the in-canon depiction of him pre-Earth.
in canon my arse.
Agreed! He was originally supposed to be a Monster Truck and although there was one in the Cybertron line they went with Crumplezone because he has big ape arms and he's a larger sized toy.
Well, if you can't accept the Botcon Crumplezone remold you're pretty much out of luck: that's the only official version of a preBeast Wars Primal that exists.
IMHO, that's a pretty awesome pic of Optimus Primal. I buy it!
Wow, you got a cannon in your arse....
Seriously, your liking it or not does not determine its worth as canon.
Why would there even be monster trucks on Cybertron? Was Primal some sort of alt. mode gladiator or something? Seems really contrary to his character.
pre beast wars megatron had cybertron defense red alerts body but with it being a transformable kind of exosuit
most likely from the looks of it though pre beast wars megatron's inner core main robot mody was modeled after enregon barricade for the vehicle and robot mode
heres a page show a picture of pre beast megatrons inner core body in its seperate robot and vehicle mode
with a bit of work one could bash energon barricade into this version of megatron easily
True. But that Optimus was never on the show.
True... it IS part of the canon. That much is indisputable. But what part of the canon is the question.
After all, we should remind ourselves often that being "canon" with Transformers and being "consistent" or "definitive" are not the same things.
While the Crumplezone remold may be canon (ie: part of the overall body of officially sanctioned extended fiction), I think it's worth questioning the context and definitiveness of that incarnation of Primal.
Though it does fit him pretty well.
