This is a complicated question, if you know post it below.
Make sure to give your reason.
I will post the answer in a few hours.

It is mentioned in the movie, not directly.
    You really gotta pay attention.

I'm relatively new here, I have no idea how to re size it.
I had enough trouble trying to get it there.

Just use paint.net or photoshop. It's fairly easy. If you don't do it soon it'll be taken down anyway.

As for the question, sometime in 2013 if ROTF took place in 2009.

EDIT- Nevermind. U did it already lol

Yeah it has to be in 2013 if Sam finished college.

It takes place sometime in 2012, (It is set three years after Operation: Firestorm).

    Good question!

I try hard to keep track of the smallest details but even I'm struggling to remember any allusion to a specific date.*

Also, I was pretty sure the calendar in Bruce Brazos' office said 2011 in the upper right hand corner, but I don't have my notes from the IMAX screening or a Blu-Ray player to double-check with, lol.

But I'm reasonably certain it was July (because of Bruce's calendar, which showed 31 days that month with the 4th on a Sunday like 2011's 4th) and that the bulk of the action was supposed to take place over the 4th of July weekend, so I guess I just assumed the Chicago finale was taking place on the 4th of July itself.

Which also fits roughly with the information that Sam graduated about 3 months earlier, and as far as I recall they never suggest any actual timeframe for his completion of college.

Plus, y'know, the flags everywhere and stuff...not to mention the big, first weekend of the movie's release and all that.

    So I say July 4th, 2011.

P.S. Anyone interested in this thread may want to check THIS one out, too:

    http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-movie-discussion/511245-how-many-days-were-1st-movie.html

    *EDIT:

Whoops! Sam's parents arrive on the 11th (not the 21st!), so now Bruce's calendar is the key. If anyone with a Blu-Ray player cares to check Sam's interview scene, we'll know for sure what month and year it was. That puts the Chicago battle about 3 days later on the 14th though, right?

No, I needed to show my work...so I did.

Likewise, I needed to watch that scene again.

    So I did!

When Bruce is convincing Sam to take the job, you can see a close-up of the calendar in question behind them.

It says it's January of 2010, lol.

    So apparently the answer's January 14th, 2010...?!?

It was obviously a very warm January for Chicago.

    :p

So I just broke it down for TF:D otM just like I did for the first movie in the link above. Glad I did it, too! My earlier off-the-top-of-my-head guesstimation about the timeframe of this movie was way off. D'oh!

    Day 1 -- Sam's Job Interviews/Parents Arrive Early
    Day 2 -- Sam's 1st Day at Work/LB Attack/Sentinel Revival
    Day 3 -- Simmons/O'Reilly Interview/Carly Fight/Russian Bar/Dylan's Party
Day 4 -- Sentinel's Speech to Earth/Sam's Trip to Florida
Day 5 -- Launch at Dawn/SS Attack/Decepticon Assault on Chicago at night
Day 6 -- Sam and Autobots arrive in Chicago/OP Kills SP and Meg by Sunset

Sam chastises his parents on that first day for arriving on the 11th instead of the 21st.

Therefore, the big Chicago battle is on the 16th of whatever month it is (not January) in whatever year (not 2010).

How's July 16th of 2011 or 2012 sound to everyone?

He was using an old calendar page because that's the only one he could find in the right color.

(Except it's just plain black and white, not yellow.)

Or maybe it's meant to imply how little time he spends in the office because he's at the dojo or out golfing?

Or maybe he had that calendar up to help him review a client's finances from that time period?

I believe Malkovitch only shot for a few days during the summer and then did his re-shoots the following January, but that was still 2011 not 2010.

Perhaps it's a reference to 2010 by Arthur C. Clarke, who also wrote "The Sentinel" (as pointed out by Peter David's novelization of TF:D otM), which also features a Sentinel found upon the Moon, and which in turn likewise inspired the film 2001: A Space Odyssey .

    Coulda been lotsa things.

    :)

I'll have to say 2012 (who knows what month.)
I am assuming tf:2007 took place in 2007.
ROTF is said to have happened 2 years after the Las vegas battle,so 2009. (aka mission city.)
DOTM is said to have happened 3 years later, therefore, 2012.
    But i could be wrong.
