Hi everyone. I'm trying to find the right paint colors for the new Dual Model Kit Optimus prime. For those of you who've had a chance to see the actual Peterbilt 379, what colors is it painted in specifically? I ask because photos are deceptive and don't always reproduce colors faithfully.

More specifically, is the blue more of a purplish color in real life? Is the red on the truck metallic? Pearlescent? Fluorescent? Better yet, if anyone has an idea of the actual paint codes, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance :thumbs2:

    Poor OP.
The guy is asking for specific color, not just "hey, blue and red".

He said it on the first post:

Red is more of a metallic blood red. Orange fades into red, with blue flames, on the engine. Blue is a metallic colbalt blue. Wheel covers are blue with red flames.

Thanks for the reply. The red was actually giving me more of a hard time than the blue due to it being a notoriously difficult color to capture on film. Seems like you're right about the orange too, in pics of the actual truck, the gradient never seems to go to a pure yellow like we see on the toys or the kit, even at the front of the engine housing (just aft of the blue flames.)

No problame-o. I built a model of the truck (From scratch), so if you need more info on the paint job, feel free to ask.

    Hi megatron.

I do quite a bit of scratchbuilding myself. What scale did you make the truck in, and what paints did you use on it?

For myself, I was thinking of using House Of Kolor paints on the 1/35 scale kit, but I fear that the thickness of a basecoat/clear coat automotive finish would wash over the details and rivets of the bodywork, so I'm thinking of mixing-up some Tamiya spray lacquers, which from experience, tend to preserve fine detail.

I don't know exactly, but I used Model Master "True Blue Pearl" acrylic for some other OP figures and it looks pretty good on my ROTF Leader version. I would look into something with metal flake or something similar, because it makes it look really nice... like car paint.
