Heh, spot on.
Walky! He does some great transformer reviews on his webcomic blog.
This vid was histarical.
Daaaaang now I can't do my Transformers Review parody without seeming like a copying poser.
UNLESS... hawaiian shirts!
I wish i was at Botcon. T_T
I think his point is mostly people doing video reviews* with shaky cameras, holding stuff too close to the camera and talking unintelligible stuff instead of posting a few decent photos.
*Of STOLEN TOYS FROM ASIA!
Amen and BEST video review I have ever seen actually.
This trend of doing video reviews is getting out of hand. What's frusterating is that the worst people to be doing it seem to be the ones that get the hot anticipated figures early so no matter how terrible their videos are the fans still watch.
And there's the fact that sites keep frontpaging and lauding them, despite the fact that they're all of stolen merchandise.
It's funny how the reviewers have either one of two (or both) of these problems; they're either morbidly obese or suffer from a speech impediment. Yeah, this makes me so much more enthusiastic about TF fandom gatherings.
I am waiting for Jabba the Hutt to do reviews of Mini-cons for us fans.
i hate 98 percent of the video reviews. for the reasons above. too close, too fat of hands covering things up as he flips the toy around.. soeech impediments....
i hate 2 other things about em:
1. bad lighting. like using a 40 watt bulb 20 feet away and then they put themselves between the light and toys and so all you get is shadows and no detail.
and the entire time, they say, "you see that (Black tab on a black figure) you gotta be careful with it..."
2. poor camera control. i know webcams have now view finder, but there is a computer monitor, so why can't they see how shitty their videos look as they record it?
oh, one last thing...if you are gonna do a crappy video review, could you at least tell mom to not interrupt you, or let your kid sister talk on her cell or keep the damn pet toy poodle out of the room till you are done? sheesh...those are the worst.
I just don't understand why photos have gone out of fashion.
Beewear mye krappy Gerremann accsent.
Because photography is relatively difficult to get right, and typing is work.
With a video review, all you need is a working video digital video camera of some sort, then you talk the night away, encode it and upload it onto youTube.
How about your stance on photographs being derivative works subject to the whims of another copyright holder? Imaginary property laws in this country, and several others, are getting further and further out of hand every day.
One, it's not MY stance. (if anything, I'd say toy photos fall under "fair use" at last as far as US jurisdiction is concerned)
Two, if photos are copyvios, then so are videos. Duh.
I enjoy a well taken, dynamically posed photo, like those of Remy. However, a video (when done right) is much easier to show HOW a toy transforms, thus assisting all the people confused by toys like MP Megatron.
It just usually isnt done right...
I know the video review was suppose to be funny.
'm sorry. I've tasted Mountain Dew.
Didn't like it then. Don't like it now.
yeah, me too. i appreciate the vids for what they are, but always find well taken pics a better way to judge a toy.
