I am having an issue with my Alt Soundwave. The paint on the hood flaked and I have to repaint it. However in doing so, the paint spider-webbed. This happened the first time and i put a coat of silver underneath the blue and it worked. This time, it didn't.

So what is the problem? is there something on the surface or is it the plastic itself? And how do I fix it permanently.

Also, if Redline sees this, what sealant do you use for clear coating?

If it is Krylon Fusion, I may be able to help....

And I believe REDLINE uses Future Floor Finish for clearcoating

It's possible the contents inside the can weren't shook up enough. If it's a new can, always blow some out prior to shaking. Seems it won't mix properly unless you do. If not, it's like laying down a coat of coloured reducer, then laying paint over that which causes this problem.

This has happened to me with krylon fusion. I believe...but am not sure...it's when you put a new coat on top of one that is in-between dry...meaning not still wet, but not dry enough yet. There are some guidelines right on the spray that tell you to apply a second coat before time x...or after time y. You probably did it inbetween with horrifying results.

    again, I might be wrong.

As far as Krylon Fusion goes, you either repaint within an hour or two of the last coat, or you let it fully cure (at least a full week, though waiting an additional day or two is probably a good idea), otherwise you're guaranteed to get spider-webbing.

As far as other paints go...I don't know. I've actually had two projects get screwed up by spider-webbing paint or spider-webbing from clear-coat; the amount of frustration with having to strip paint and start over on something you were 90% done with is infuriating. Yay for acetone and cotton-balls!

Personally I'm gonna give bottle paints a go, but that's a different thread all together...

agrees. i now even spray on a test part before spraying. when i look at the result its just as wikkid says. i almost scraped my extra skids cause of this. i sanded it down. some of the paint leaked onto the windshield when i took off the tape. its consistency wasn't that great. in fact its liquidy.

i lightly and carefully sanded the windshield and then cured with future. whatever scratches were left was not as noticable.

well it was wierd because it's not the paint. I sprayed the rest of the car just fine. Just the hood webbed. And it webbed with both a non-silver undercoat as well as a coat of silver. So I have no idea what the issue is. but REDLINE helped out and so far it looks pretty good. On layer 5 right now and no webbing.

Next up, as REDLINE also knows, my sodering problem!

It's falling apart. However it was my first shot sodering so I'm sure it's just because of that.
