So, I think this is the only thing that hasn't really been covered. Everyone wants vince dicola doing the score, but what about other bands? I wouldn't mind a hard rocking soundtrack, like how the original one was. How about these guys:

    Avenged Sevenfold
    Pantera
    Korn
    Metallica
Iron Maiden (yeah, I know they haven't done any studio work in years, but can you imagine them doing a cover of The Touch? :D  )

One of my favorite songs is Whatever by Our Lady Peace, aka Chris Benoit's song. I always thought that would be a tremendous science fiction song.

I want to hear Iron Maiden doing a cover for White Snake's original "TF" track.
But I general, I would like to have John Williams as the music compositor for this film.

There's not a whole lot of 'nu metal' that I get into, but I'd think they'd put together a great soundtrack. I want some upbeat rock/rap stuff, like what Alien Ant farm did on the Spider-Man soundtrack. And some G N' F'n R. The real GNR, with Slash and Axl and Izzy and Duff. if none of them are dead yet. :dj

i dunno if i'd want a new score done by Vince DiCola

i think maybe itd hinder the "specialness" of the first movie

i'd love it if they had one of the songs make a cameo
like having "The Touch" playing on a radio in the bkg or something xD

uh, but yeah. i'd like to hear Skillet [or a band similar to them in style]

they've got a cool blend of real heavy rock with some keyboard stuff and mixing in classical instruments [i dunno how else to say. check 'em out to see what i mean :p ]

i think they'd do a rad song for the soundtrack or somethin

Definitely Sebastian Bach formerly of Skid Row and Iron Maiden.

Breaking Benjamin would be a good one... The song they did for the Halo 2 game soundtrack, called "Blow Me Away," was supremely awesome and fit that part of the game very well.

Who here can't hear Black Sabbaths' "Iron Man" playing the first time Megatron or one of his goons appears and starts wrecking up a city?

Fuck all that. If it's a rock soundtrack at all, it's going to be flavor of the month bands and that's a horrible idea. It should be a symphonic score, period. Something that won't sound dated by 2008, never mind several years.

If it's a case of them cranking out a secondary 'soundtrack' of songs 'inspired by' the movie in addition to the score, and the only intrusion is Nickelback or some shit played during the credits, fine. Just don't subject me to fucking advertising by sprinkling snippets of half the songs throughout the movie.

Vince was cool for his time. his time has gone. i'm with omnibus prime, just a symphonic score.

all this talk of how it should be G1, it should have the original voices, it should have the original guy doing the music. we already had that, why do you want it again? maybe if this movie was being made back when power rangers hit the big screen. back when big action KIDS movies were being made. A lot of us are adults now or have a better taste in movies and want to see a movie of today's style. it can be done. look at the matrix, not a kids flick.

Are there any (successful) science fiction films that even have bands?

I tend to think they better stick with symphony only.

I think that a full symphony is the best for this kinda film. But please not Hanz Zimmer! Every score he writes sounds exactly like the one he did before.

Perhaps Michael Bay will be able to secure Aerosmith for 3/4 of the movie's background music. :D

In all seriousness though... it really depends on the angle you want to put forward. Harry Gregson-Williams has done some great stuff in the last several years, as have some of the composers mentioned already. I think a mixture of orchestrated score music, with a few tracks by established modern artists would be a healthy combination for this film.

depends on how you take "soundtrack" and stuff as well

like take the Matrix movies for example

Their soundtracks have ALL kinds of songs on them and only like one or two were ever played in the movie.

Soundtrack i think "bands who wrote songs for/about the movie"

now the musical score, is something else entirely. you wouldnt want anything but stuff like orchestral or whatever
