I always wonder about Transformer durability and composition, and being the boring nerd I am, I killed some time. According to the letters pages of UK Marvel Comics, Omega Supreme is "tougher than a block of triple-strength durabyllium steel" According to extended profiles... Bonecrusher: His thick titanium-steel hide makes him virtually invulnerable to anything that might collapse upon him as a result of one of his charges. Broadside: His titanium-steel hull and deck protects him from most artillery fire, but he's vulnerable to high-energy beam weapons. Fangry: His own armor plating is very dense and tough. Getaway: He is equipped with bullet-proof windows and shell-resistant battle armor. Grotusque: His creature mode tusks are made from a hyper-dense alloy that, Autobot scientists believe, is all but indestructible. Hardhead: He's impervious to most armor-piercing artillery and is resistant to most thermal and electromagnetic beam weapons. Horri-Bull: Though somewhat limited in the brain department, Horri-Bull is both very strong and very tough (though it's rumored that a good percentage of his armor plating is actually dirt). He's a lumbering engine of destruction... In bull mode, he's even more densely armored... Hot Spot: A special vanadium-steel alloy shields him from temperatures of up to 5000 degrees Fahrenheit. Inferno: His ceramic-plated armored skin makes him resistant to temperatures of up to 8000° C. Ironhide: Ironhide's skin is made of a trithyllium-steel alloy impregnated with irradiated carbon fibers, giving him immunity to most forms of artillery and electromagnetic attacks. He is the most nearly invulnerable of the Autobots. Joyride: His titanium-belted tires secrete an adhesive that gives him pinpoint maneuverability on virtually any road surface. Landmine: Because of the hostile environments Landmine often has to work in, exposed to cosmic gales, meteorite rain and the like, his shell is constructed of a high-density Cybertronic alloy, resistant to all but the most severe conditions. ... Because of its construction, the shell is impervious to most armaments. Menasor: His armor is nearly impervious to all but the most powerful artillery. Metroplex: His armor is the equal of any Transformer's; to merely scratch it would require at least a low-yield nuclear explosion. Motormaster: On the road, there is not a 16-ton hunk of rolling steel more cold and cruel than Motormaster. Nautilator: His claws have an unbreakable grip and can pierce the thickest of ship hulls with minimal effort. Nosecone: In vehicle mode, Nosecone's most distinctive feature is also his most formidable asset: his durabyllium-steel alloy drill can pierce almost any material, and it is virtually indestructible. Octane: In tanker truck mode, Octane is generally heavily armored to protect himself and his fuel tank. However, he is extremely vulnerable to a hit from below the tank. Omega Supreme: His armored form is virtually impervious to all non-nuclear explosives and energy-beam weapons. Outback: He is impervious to most artillery fire. Overbite: His teeth and talons can tear through the hull of a battleship. Overkill: He can rip open the hull of a battleship with a single swipe of his titanium steel claws. Override: In cycle mode Override is equipped with an armored, reinforced windshield that is made of a special diamond-plastic alloy, which can withstand all explosive and energy beam weapons fire. Piranacon: He is fully operational up to a depth of 30,000 feet below sea level. He only walks at a maximum speed of 15 mph on land and 10 mph undersea, but since he is virtually impervious to weapons-fire, his need for speed in order to evade enemy attack is negligible. Quake: His titanium-alloy treads are coated with a special adhesive that enables him to climb up sheer cliff surfaces. Ramhorn: He can knock a train off its tracks or upend an 18-wheeler with one blow. His horn can rip through an 18 inch-thick tempered steel wall. His armor is resistant to extreme heat and cold, and most artillery fire. Ramjet: In jet form, Ramjet has a nose module that can absorb and withstand an impact with a 3 foot-thick concrete wall at a speed of 1500 mph. The rest of his form is not quite as durable, but is still very resistant to impact. Ratbat: Within his mouth are retractable mecha-fangs that can puncture all but the strongest materials. Razorclaw: His claws can rip through foot-thick steel with one swipe and allow him to climb up the sides of buildings by digging into their walls. Repugnus: In both robot and creature mode he's very tough and resistant to injury, but he's also very slow. His super-toughened claws contain chemical, electromagnetic and audio sensors, and can rip through almost any substance. Ruckus: Ruckus proved his true worth when, after having been caught by surprise behind enemy lines and smashed to pieces by an Autobot-launched proton missile, he was still able to warn an approaching squad of Decepticons of the impending Autobot ambush with the part of him that still functioned: his voice module... With his titanium nail-studded tires, he can grip and roll over virtually anything. Scoop: Composed of a super-alloy devised by Quickmix, the shovel is impervious to all weapons fire short of a small nuclear explosion and is often used as a shield. It can lift up to 60 tons and smash through virtually any barrier. Scrapper: In vehicular mode, Scrapper's shovel can slice through 12-inch thick carbon-steel plate and lift up to 30 tons. Sharkticons: The jaws and teeth of the Sharkticons are so powerful and strong that they can snap a six inch-thick titanium steel rod in .023 of a second. Their spiked tails can crush the heaviest armor plating. Skalor: He can clamp his vacuum-suction mouth onto most ships and, by piercing their hulls with his diamond-tipped teeth, suck the fuel from them. A snap of his turbo-powered jaws can cut through any substance. His underwater range is 4,000 miles. His heavy armor allows him to function at any depth. Skullgrin: His outer shell is very strong, able to resist artillery hits, and it enhances his strength tenfold. Sky Lynx: In all modes, he has great strength and is impervious to all but the most powerful energy beam weapons and artillery. Sludge: His armored hide can withstand all but the most powerful blasts. Slugfest: In stegosaurus mode, he can use the armored plates on his back like the teeth of a chainsaw to cut through virtually any substance Snapdragon: In reptile mode, Snapdragon has heat-treated carbon-steel claws and teeth that can cut through virtually any substance... A defect in the crystalline structure of Snapdragon's steel skin is the reason for his habit of taking grease baths. Without near-constant lubrication, his skin becomes brittle and is prone to cracking. Snaptrap: Snaptrap is nearly impervious to weapons-fire. Durabyllium-steel alloy armor shields his body. Snarl: The large golden plates protruding from his spinal assembly are solar collectors... His heavily armored hide makes him resistant to most missile fire. Squeezeplay: Dense armor plating and titanium-reinforced claws that can slice through almost any substance make Squeezeplay a deadly opponent. He uses his tail as a metal-rending mace. Sunstreaker: His upper torso construction incorporates a tough polymer-steel skin, making him particularly resistant to artillery fire. Superion: Although incredibly strong and resistant to most artillery and beam weapons, he does have certain "pressure points" - areas of structural weakness where one component Aerialbot connects to the next - that are particularly vulnerable to attack. Swindle: Although his exterior is fairly well armored, a direct hit on his unprotected and open dashboard can easily disable him. Swoop: Swoop is vulnerable to enemy firepower due to the relatively fragile nature of his wings. Tailgate: But a powerful ferrocobalt magnet under his hood allows him to be pulled by and within a few feet of any vehicle he chooses to follow, reducing his own fuel expenditure to nearly zero Trypticon: In dinosaur mode, Trypticon has incredible strength and is virtually impervious to attack. Twin Twist: He'll usually follow Topspin's initial assault on a target with his own: he uses his two diamond-tipped drills, which can go as fast as 6000 rpm, to penetrate virtually any fortification up to three yards thick. Warpath: His thick vanadium-steel armor can withstand all but the toughest blows. Weirdwolf: Up close suits him just fine, because it enables him to switch to wolf mode and use his tungsten-tipped claws on hapless Autobots. Wreck-Gar: When he is hit by laser blasts and falls apart, he reassembles himself out of the junky remains of his body and available junk heaps that constitute the structure of his planetoid, and keeps right on coming. According to the Optimus Prime vs Megatron Ultimate Battle dvd, all Transformers' bodies are made of durabyllium-steel - the hardest metal in the galaxy. It's understandable that fiction-writers and Hasbro would tend to avoid the actual subject of composition as it could limit story-telling. Regardless the majority of characters, when build or armor is mentioned, are simply said to be well-armored with no specifics. The most commonly used metals though are the fictional durabyllium-steel as well as titanium alloys. Any other sources for Transformer composition in other mediums worth noting?
