Does anyone know what type of plastic most figures are made of? I work in a powder paint shop and wondered if some can withstand being in an oven over 200 degrees.

I don't know what they're made of, but I'd wage 90% against your average transformer surviving that kind of heat. I've head of people using blow dryers to soften plastic, so I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that you'd probably end up with a pile of melted goo and some screws and pins. I don't think even a titanium would be safe since their joints and heads and such are plastic. If you want to test it then you should go buy some cheap legends figure and blast him.

Edit: You should also specify your gradient, 200 C is a lot different than 200 F.

Also come to think of it, I've seen some messed up transformers from dying baths that had recently been boiling, so if this over could boil water I'd say you're probably out of luck.

They wouldn't survive. I'm not sure even stikfas would survive. Most of us who do work with materials that need to be heated to harden usually use something to hold water, and a microwave. But that's only after you've removed all metal from that piece.

Oddly, even certain alcoholic drinks spilled on these newer toys will make them crack(anything above 70% alcohol content sometimes). So good luck.

They're made of snips and snails and a puppy dog tail. The fembots are made of sugar, spice and everything nice....

Add a lil' Chemical X and BAM!...instant transformer.

They are made of ABS plastic and some kind of PVC plastic, with die-cast thrown in for some more luxurious figures.

Transformers & most plastic toys will soften
in hot rooms during the summer.
Ovens only produce piles of goo.
If you really need to destroy your toy that badly, by all means toss it in oven.
Otherwise, try to avoid direct sun, ovens, microwaves.

What's with the question? Why you want to put a transformer in an oven?

No surprise.. They're generally made of polypropylene and/or polyethylene (both ldpe and lldpe), sometimes(rarely) polycarbonate(for clear/translucent pieces). It wouldn't surprise me if they had their own proprietary blend to get the best of both worlds..Most plastics in the polyXXX family start softening up around 110 deg c and really begin to melt around 140c.
    Were you considering powdercoating them?

Edit*** If you have any Japanese TF boxes kicking around they usually have recycling stream markings on the back**

Apparently they are made of some strange mixture of Fail and Win, with the precise percentages of those ingredients determined by the combined die rolls of several Hasbro and TakaraTomy executives on a per-figure basis.
