As i'm sure we are all aware the days of the arcade are dying, it ain't how it used to be in the eighties and early nineties with smoke filled dim light rooms where 20 pence after 20 pence was enjoyed. (which ended up as 50 pence, then a £1+ :( ) but if you could own any 3 arcade machines in your home what would they be and why?

Remember there has been a shit load of arcade machines covering pretty much all genres (racing and sports get neglected the most) so pick wisely as you only get 3 choices :D

    1. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - that machine where its all about beating each others highscores and who can get the furthest. Its featured some oustanding graphics at the time and the light sabre duel with Darth was a fantastic highlight. Die ewok, die!

    2. Street Fighter vs Xmen (sit down cabinet) - there may be better fighting games out there to purchase (Soul Calibur, MvC2 etc) but playing this against a friend is just a great experience. A machine suited to those trying to one-up their friends and obviously more fun when drunk.

    3. Simpsons Arcade (4 person sit down) - Have a group of mates and wanna tear it up? This was the perfect game for it and its one I would love to own. How could one not love watching Marge twat the shit out of people with a vacuum :D  Easy to pick up and play and that perfect party centre piece :)

Just 3, you're gonna have to leave one out :D

    Neverheard of Bombjack *opens wikipedia*

*returns* Edit: I remember that game I had it on the Atari ST. I feel bad for leaving out a classic game in my list but oh well.

TRON, Star Wars Arcade, Dungeons and Dragons: Tower over Mysteria, Star Wars: Empire, and probably Golden Axe.

I actually have no idea where one would actually buy an arcade machine from, I doubt most of them are available any more :cry

    1. The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Loved the hell out of this, last time I was at the arcade I think the graphics card was broken, stuff wasnt rendering properly.

Actually, thats it. I'd be totally happy with just that :D

    Fine. Just 3. Here goes.

    1. Double Dragon

Still the most epic of the side scrolling beat-em-ups. The ending is still fucking epic.

    2. Daytona 8 cabinet link up motion seat camera cabs

The best racing game in the arcade ever with the best cabinet of all time. Epic races. Epic music. Rooooooooooooooooooooooooooooollliiiiiiiiiiiing Staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaart!

    3. Virtua Cop 2

Again, the arcade is really the only way to play. Probably the best light gun shooter to date. Shame Sega dropped this for the ultimately rubbishy House of the Dead :(

Actually I listed three because I thought Twist was getting chastised for listing less than 3.

    Still easy.

    Star Wars: Arcade
    Tron
    Dungeons and Dragons: Shadows.

I just wanted to create some discussion rather than reeling off lists but who am I to ask that of people, have as many as you want i suppose it doesn't matter really

Prowl what type of the game was the Tron arcade game? I'm trying to remember it, was it a shooter?

Dude, it's on Live, check it out. It doesn't hold up much now (but the Cycles are still fun to play). See, it wasn't just about the game, though, it was about the Arcade box with the super blue glowy neon lights decorating it, and the queally glowing see-through joystick. It would look awesome in anyone's house.

It's a Tank shooter, Cycle-Wall-Racer, Overhead shooter (kinda), It's four stages with different tasks, but outside of that it's really not much more than an old points game. Tron Deadly Discs was probably more fun.

Holy Shit dude... Seeing that brought back memories of Saturday Nights, Eating Pizza at the local arcade and 8_Bit Bassy Sounds.

Virtua Cop 2, damn I haven't thought about that game in a long time. Yeah I'm really surprised it wasn't supported any more considering the popularity of it, every magazine raved about it when it was ported to the consoles. Its a genre best suited to the arcades too.

I remember the Tank Shooter sections, for some reason Star Fox on the snes makes me think of that part of Tron too. Must be all those lines :lol

the sit down version of AvP (capcom) would be the best thing ever.

i'll always have a soft spot for time crisis 2...

a super street fighter 2 turbo machine would also be the win.
