Of all the various Megatron incarnations we've seen so far, which alt-mode do you guys prefer the most? I'm all for nostalgic G1 stuffs, but (*raises flame shield*) a gun seems a little wrong. Wrong in that once he transforms into one, he's sort of useless until someone wields him. If he wanted to, Starscream could probably easily stuff him into a box, lock it and throw away the key.

I prefer to see Megs as some sort of war machine like a tank or an alien spacecraft.

 

Armada-style tank was always my fave.

 

I'm a tank person myself. Anything that's big and metal and rolling down the street right at you crushing every car in its path is scary enough, let alone adding a cannon on top aimed at your sorry butt, then to have it transform into a 30-foot monstrosity who's about to wipe you from existence like so many cockroaches. Plus IMO a tank gives Megs more of front-line combat presence against the mostly earth-bound Autobots.

 

I actually liked the movie's jet mode

 

Either a tank or some sort of jet/flying death machine. A gun has never made sense to me, the T-rex was ok, and the race car, while interesting and looked cool, was a bit useless imo. Depending on what the toy version looks like, and how he uses it in the show, my favorite alt-mode for Megs might change to Helicopter in the near future.

 

M109A6 "Paladin" or other like wise self-propelled artillery gun.

 

Definately the tank. Maybe a 3rd alt mode with flying capabilities.

 

Actually, there was one G1 episode (can't remember which) where Megs did float about in gun mode and shoot people. He could also take the form of a giant hand gun that attached to Starscream's underbelly ... which I'm pretty confident some strange, demented fanfic had taken note of in the last two decades.

 

My favourite alt-mode for Megatron would have to be either Beast Wars TM:2, or Movie Megatron. I would love to see Megatron transform into a Techno-organic wolf-like creature in the future.

Even thoughI love G1 Megatron (and subsequently MP-05) I always thought turning into a hand gun was sort of silly.

A jet (like in the movie) doesn't seem brutish enough, but a tank seems to fit perfectly.

A tank seems to be the call of the day. It's pretty devastating and it's mobile to boot! btw, that pic of the paladin is freaking awesome.

 

Probably a tank. It's got the destructive power that best befits the leader of the Decepticons. An alien spacecraft like in the movie and Energon works pretty well, too, though.

The Walther P38 gun is his best altmode ever.
Megatron is supposed to be the perfect war machine and doesn't need an altmode. Turning into a gun as a disguise for stealth missions is perfect. He's still lethal and doesn't need a stupid hologram to fool humans.

2nd, tyrannosaur/dragon. Because it fits his evil persona.

Tank and whatever: I don't like the idea of Megatron relying in an altmode to look more menacing or whatever. He's supposed to be like that in bot mode.

 

Well said. I agree, I've always preferred the gun for Meg's alt. mode.

Unlike characters like Starscream who utilize their alt mode frequently, Megatron always seemed as if transforming was a bit beneath him. His bot mode is who he is, a brutal warrior above all others. On the rare occasion he would transform the gun was the perfect alt. mode accent to the Decepticon, a mode with no other purpose but to destroy. He can't fly around, you can't drive anywhere in him, he's 100% pure weapon. If he's not killing you himself, he's being used to kill, Period. That's why I love G1 Megs. A Transformer with no other purpose but to destroy all he sees fit to destroy.
