BBC News - Western black rhino declared extinct Western Black rhino is extinct, and other species will follow, claims conservation group | Mail Online Well there goes another two beautiful species gone because of human incompetence.
Fuck.....don't really know what to say about that....a real shame...I didn't even know what a Javan Rhino is, and now they're close to extinction?? Goddamit
I pray every day humanity never gets off this rock to spread it's plague of death and misery to any other undeserving recipients.
I see no reason this is more significant than the death of the same amount of animals from other species that are not extinct.
You guys know many other animals have gone extinct... right? It happens, oh well, we move on. I'd really love to see a Dodo or a Saber-tooth, but I can't.
These were the last of them, meaning while their deaths as individuals may be no less or more lamentable than another death due to poaching, their death as a species lessens the breadth and wonder of the natural world, and is one more condemnable strike against us in our stewardship of the planet. No, they don't. There are no known specimens alive in captivity.
The vast majority of species that have ever existed are extinct. The loss of one or two species in that context isn't significant, but it's the current trend that's distrubing.
"Us?" I see no "us." I don't live in Africa. Regardless, extinction just means they won't be lonely now. It's a GOOD thing.
And in my younger days I wouldn't have thought such a thing, but it has became painfully clear that as a whole species humans will never even slow down consuming and destroying everything around them until its too late for themselves and whatever other species are unlucky enough to be in their path. Sure there are individuals who try to slow it down, but as a whole there is little hope, if we do spread to another world somehow the cycle will all start again, in time whatever else is on any world we find will die. What gives one species the right to destroy everything around it for greed?
^ What? That I won't take responsibility for the actions of others? The second part of my post was in jest.
