Were you a Genesis (Mega Drive) or Super Nintendo kid?

Just wondering what you all had, Gen or SNES? Or both?
My experience is most of the people I know were Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) kids.
This isn't a thread to argue what was better and in most cases, whatever the parents bought you got, perhaps not your choice, but feel free to explain choices or preferences nicely.

I had a Mega Drive growing up, Sonic, Columns, Golden Axe and Streets of Rage all being played very often. Even ended up with 86 games for it at one point, and yes that included Shaq-Fu :D

I had both. I had the Genesis near launch, loved the machine greatly. I got the SNES during the time it was bundled with Zelda LttP. Both systems have amazing games. I give the edge to the SNES for it's RPGs and Nintendo first part games.

Same here. Sonic, Golden Axe, Robocop vs Terminator, Road Rash, Wonder Boy, Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike, Altered Beast. Those were the days, "Rise from your grave" - "...Holy heck! It spoke! The game spoke, that is so boss!!"

I always leant more to the Genesis. The games were essentially identical, but the sound quality was better on the Genesis and the tunes sounded less 'midi' - comparing them today, its still the case. Not sure why.
I played 'Super Star Wars', 'Aliens Vs Predator' and 'Earthworm Jim' on SNES all the time when I visited friends that had one.

Both, and a PC. I look down my nose at the 16-bit system warriors.

I had the Megadrive initially but did end up getting a SNES as well a couple of years later.

Mega Drive was my first console, and my first gaming machine.

Grew up on Street Fighter, Sonic the Hedgehog, and various side-scrolling-beat-em-ups.

It's a gift my parents regret giving to me, and they're not proud of the fact that their son got his name the country's Book of Records due to his gaming addictions. :p

Yes sir. I also remember when I first got Phantasy Star 2. I played that game for what felt like forever. I was so into the story and the characters (even if in retrospect they really didn't say much).

Genesis, my dad bought me the Streets of Rage 2 bundle and I got a mail away for Sonic 2. The Streets of Rage series, Earthworm Jims, Jurassic Park and the Sonic games owned me in that era. I eventually built up the space fortress with an original Genesis, Sega Cd and 32x. I wish I still had it all.

I did get a SNES shortly after MKII launched but never played it as much as my Genesis.

Had and still have both, as well as a ton of games. I favored the SNES for it's smoother graphics, revolutionary controller, and more fun games in general (Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Mario Kart, and Mario RPG are some of the finest games ever made IMO).

I did have the Sega Channel until it was canceled, which was quite possibly the coolest thing ever, and got my Genesis much more attention than it would have had otherwise.

I still remember some of the passcodes for the levels. I also dove deep into that game. I love the gameshow level. Got it on my Iphone now.

Dynamite Heady and Dizzy Egg just randomly popped in my head - great games. I so regret flogging my entire mega drive collection.

I was always envious of my mate who had a SNES but i'm not quite sure why as i'm terrible at Zelda and Mario games, but i remember enjoying pilots wings and mario kart.

I had, and still have actual, a Mega Drive.

I've often thought about taking it out of storage and having a go on the old games.
