part of transformers ability to remain financially successful as a franchise spanning multiple generation-gaps is its ability to fit its art style with changing trends and tastes. g1 fitted in with very neatly next to thundercats and he-man. Beast wars art syle looked a little like re-boot and like early polygon playstation1 era videogames which I think had started to filter into peoples homes by then. Armada had a gotta catch them all alike slogan which fitted in with pokemon which was huge at the time. Transformers animated art style mirrored ben10 and clone wars. the live action movies started out as nearly everything comic book or super hero has been given a live action holywood treatment so it fits in perfectly with current trends. prime uses a similar look but I personally think they maybe added elements of toy story on how they portrayed humans and wall.e on how they made robots look so innocent. I cant say I read a review of war for cybertron without the mention of gears of war or how its design fits in with nearly every current generation linear blockbuster shooter video game trend around at the moment

I know the current art style isn't over yet as we are inevitably gona get movie number 4 despite the whole cast dying again and hopefully prime has got many more years ahead of it but if it was gona change what art style or franchise reboot would you like to see?

I personally would go with the mixture of cel shaded and painted look used in video games street fighter IV and Borderlands check out photos of the forthcoming borderlands 2 to see how stylish it could look or for a more traditional but still impressive the really hi resolution 2d animation from the blueblaze/guiltygear video games would be a good fit what do you think?

I want it to look like in IDW (but not the ugly drawings we had in Heart of Darkness).

    Stop-motion with toys.

That way we won't be able to bitch about show-accuracy!

A "historical" comic with "Man of Iron" style stories done as Dark Age tapestries, Ukiyo-style woodcuts from feudal Japan about Stranglehold and Bludgeon being beaten by Metalhawk and Landmine, Renaissance folios showing the great master sculptors, painters, and inventors getting inspired by Cybertronian sources, etc.

Well, that's what the show looked like, the toys on the other hand were more notable for the organic elements, and even more mechanical parts or modes having a more curved, organic look to them, but being smoother and have mechanical detailing, which was the other big aspect of the line, detailing, LOTS of detailing.

I'd watch it. I can see something like this happening in the form of a movie though.

Well, Power Rangers used toys for certain scenes, and the funny thing was that they were usually better than the models used for the fight scenes, as they didn't need to worry about somebody wearing em as a suit. :)
