Hey guys. I'm heart broken. My 360 dead stopped 5 minutes into a movie, and flashed it. Yup, the dreaded RoD. I've been SO careful. It's never been on for hours and hours. It gets cleaned regularly. I just KNEW if I took extra good care of it, it wouldn't happen to me. Well, it did. Just thought I'd whine to you all. On hold with MS as I type. (crosses fingers that I don't get screwed out of extended warranty somehow)

If it's RRoD, you won't get screwed out of the warranty. Also, going through xbox.com would probably go faster.

It sucks, but it happens. Should get your Xbox back in like 3 weeks probably.

Might I ask what RoD stands for?

It stands for Red Ring Of Death.

It's a light show on the Xbox 360 signaling that it has experienced a "General Hardware Failure" and must be sent back to Microsoft for repair.

Look on the bright side, odds are now that you have had it you'll be in the clear. I know there are horror stores of people getting 2 or 3 ringers but odd are you're going to be fine.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll be packing and shipping it today. The cust. service person I talked to last night said they're actually getting them done relatively quick and it shouldn't take as long. Buzz, I REALLY hope you're right. Thanks guys.

The fact that you had to do this is what both annoys and scares me. There are RPGs.... Fable, Infinite Undiscovery. I don't want to be careful and have to shut my system down every few minutes. I played Phantasy Star 4 for 24 hours straight without shutting down my Genesis. Why do I have to baby a system to avoid RROD. But as it is, I do catch myself worrying whenever I accidently sit on the 360 controller and turn it on, because I'm worried about forgetting that it's on and leaving it on for hours.

I'd probably worry more about sitting on a controller and not feeling it. :D  That could be an issue.

hehehe, oh I feel it, but it doesn't always turn it on. Sometimes, the wrong nudge or something falling right on the button will turn it on, and I'll look up and see my 360 on, and then I panic "Oh shit, how long has that been on?? I'm going to RR, I know it!"

edit: It's kinda like realizing a condum broke, only not really.

Question to those that have been through this. Did the repair center work on weekends? I know it sounds selfish, but I'm just wondering, considering it was signed for delivery at 845pm. Thanks.

Another question to you vets of the red rings. How was MS about updating your status? They signed for mine on Friday, but it still hasn't been updated to show that's it's even arrived. This whole process frustrates me. Thanks guys.

Well, since 4:35 this afternoon, they've updated it to say they've received it. Now for the real wait.

Smasher, when did you buy your 360 originally? Just curious. Mine was bought in 12/06.
