    I BOUGHT VICTORIA'S ENGAGEMENT RING!!!

(Gets long-winded, as is usual for me, right... about... here...)

So, um, yeah. I posted about this in the Highs & Lows thread in the Toyark, because it's a high and a ring is like a toy. I guess. hehe.

I bought it from Kay Jewelers... very nice people there and I found the exact ring I know she'll love in less than 10 minutes. It's a Leo diamond, a little less than 1/3 caret... absolutely beautiful. It's going to be mounted on a white gold band, but that leads to the small problems. Victoria doesn't like yellow gold, doesn't think it looks good on her. I think everything (and nothing!) looks great on her, but, as usual what I think doesn't count.:p  If she liked yellow gold, it would have just been a matter of resizing the ring to a size 5 and I could have taken the ring home almost immediately. But no. Since she wants white gold it'll take longer. And since Leo's are only mounted on special Leo bands... it'll take even longer... possibly as long as April. Thankfully, since I told them I wanted to propose no later than Jan. 7th (the day before Vic goes back to school) they were able to figure out a way to have it mounted on a temporary "regular" white gold band and get it back to me no later than the 6th. Then just switch to the regular band later. Very cool.

Now that the ring is out of the way, the only thing left is the how. Unfortunately, Victoria's already expecting me to propose before she leaves for her last semester, so there's only so much of a surprise I can give her. I talked to her cousin (much older, more like an aunt) about it at work... she had some nice ideas. Vic's dad wasn't much help... wish i could tell you how he proposed, but I don't wanna embarass him. My mom and dad are going to think about it. Talked to Ron (Razerwire) and he was a huge help.

Basically just decided to trick her into picking me up to go out to a nice dinner, while in reality making a home cooked Italian meal for her. Have a nice candlelit dinner alone at home, go for a walk in the park or maybe go iceskating if the outdoor rink is still up... sounds like a nice evening, and suits both of our personalities to a T. And since my car pretty much just died, having her pick me up wouldn't arouse any more suspicions than she'll already have. Everybody that I told seems to like it... simple, but as I said fits both of our personalities. As soon as she sees the dinner set up she'll know and I'll get down on bended knee and finally ask her to be my wife.

Any other suggestions would be great, but as of now that's my plan.:)

I'm making a bit of a big deal posting this here, because even though a lot of the names and people have changed here on the 2005boards, you guys have always been a good source of ideas and a huge support for our relationship. I don't know if any of the old-timers remember me asking how to go about asking out a (then) 17 year old high school band dork, or even if I should just forget about her because se was so much younger. Hell, the age difference is only 4 1/2 years, seems like nothing now... but back then it was huge. Just thanks a lot guys. It's been almost 5 years now... 6 since I met here. Right around the time I found this place actually... sounds corny, especially since I've never met any of you personally or even talked to you individually aside from a few PMs here or there, but the 2005 boards have helped me a lot.

(Thanks a lot Ron, just those couple little PMs were a lot of help!:) )

Sounds good. But if she's expecting it, you may want to try a few "false starts" in between. A few romantic outings that could potentially serve as the right time and place. Just to keep her guessing.

    Until then, a provisional congratulations.

Thanks a ton! It's going to take some real work for us to get married in '07, but fall is definitely our plan!

As for the wedding plans... I don't even want to think of it now! I'm too nervous as it is!
