I just bought a lot of transformers from a guy on craigslist for $50 and in the listing he said he was a collector. When I met up with him, he said it again and then said that he's selling them for money due to financial reasons but they are all in good shape but a couple might be missing stuff..

Well I checked them out and all the ones I was interested in had all their stuff from what I could tell.

When I got home and started looking closer at them, esp the ones near the bottom they were all dirty as hell, not dusty but dirty. It looked like he threw them in a box and put it outside on the beach for a couple of weeks. OMG they were terribly dirty.

So as the daughter went to start the dishwasher I took some of the ones that I'm not going to keep and threw them in there to see how they would come out. They didn't do bad at all. The rub sign on one of 2 that had it started coming off but, other than that, they look really good.

I think I'm gonna put the ones I'm keeping in there as long as they don't have stickers, maybe wash them on warm instead of hot as hell.

Point is, how do you call yourself a collector and keep your figures in such horrible condition, I can see them getting dusty from sitting around but, these were just dirty as hell, there is no way he was a collector. It's all good, I don't COUNT on the word of anyone from Craigslist.

it was a good haul since I was missing all the ones I'm keeping and with a little help they will be back in good shape.

I was just curious how someone lets them get like this if they are a collector..

Also edited first post to add pic of a "dirty" version.

I washed Jazz and he's still got some of that stuff on him in his grill and a couple other parts but, the majority came off and wheeljack and Turbo Tracks look brand new again short of a couple tiny spots here and there..

Looks like those toys found a better home :thumb

Kind of remind me when I picked up a stray kitten from a gutter. My dad dunked her in a bucket of soapy water and the kitty hated it, but she came out smelling much better.

She passed away a few years ago, but she had great 20 years with my parents at her beck and call :)  My mum still talks about her all the time.

Still a great find for $50! And it looks like there's some customs in there (That Scourge looks awesome!), so at least at one time they were probably owned by a collector. So either he got them off of someone else or just really didn't have any sense of cleanliness. :lol

But yeah at $50, I'd pay it and spend the time cleaning each one.

...only paid 50$? Shit... who cares if they were dirtied up... that's a great haul.

Guess it's good to know that dishwashing is a last resort that won't destroy them... hehe

Is that sand on the OP? Or the powdery stuff when wood rots?

Anyway, still a great haul at $50, congrats :)

I'm not sure what it is that is on it, but it comes off with a toothpick (It's all I had sitting here next to me small enough to get to the dirt) but, it doesn't just blow off once it's broken up with the toothpick, it just kinda sticks in other places like static cling or something.

I have 4 more of them in the dishwasher now, none with stickers or rub signs on them so we'll see how they come out.

I think he got them from a garage sale or something, honestly, either that or a younger kid turned collector, some of them don't look bad at all, just that dirt stuck in spots.

But yeah for $50 for just the 7 I wanted was well worth it compared to buying them separate

Yeah, the Scourge look neat... but that WfC Prime looks like it was colored with a sharpie.
