Had a strange problem develop since yesterday. Not a huge problem but an irritation to say the least!

So as an example, I open up Microsoft Access. It seems to think there's no icon, as in screenshot below:

However, looking at the actual file, the icon is intact:

Tried doing a rollback, to no avail. It also only affects a few programmes. Anybody got any ideas? It doesn't have any affect on performance, but it's bloody annoying :lol

EDIT: Should add that I have Windows 7!

Did you try manually assigning it the icon?

Tried that - it won't let me change it. Button's grayed out.

I had the same thing with a couple of icons on my taskbar.
I think it sorted itself out after I got a update.

Just did a little digging around on the net.
Do you have a Nvidia graphics card?

    Windows update?

Just weird, it's only started in the last couple of days. I tidied up my start menu (literally just putting things into folders) and then this happens. Very odd.

Wondered if it was anything to do with installing Rocket Dock but tried uninstalling it, didn't work.

    Nope. ATI Radeon HD4800.

And since I restarted my PC about 5 mins ago, more icons have disappeared

Try updating your graphics card drivers and doing a windows update.

Also, if you want to have MSN back to the notifications tray, close it down completely, go to the icon under the start menu and right click to bring up 'Properties'.
Go to 'Compatibility' tab and select 'Windows Vista Services Pack 2'
Next time you start it the icon will be back under the notification area and it'll be working like it did under Vista and XP.

    Omnius sorted it :D

Certain program Icons reverting to "Windows Default" icons.

    Good stuff!

And nice tip there re: MSN too Al - that's been bugging me :lol  Cheers!

I'll need to remember that if it happens again.
    Good work Omnius

And that MSN thing bugged me as well until I read somewhere to revert it back to the old way. Much better.
