Okay so, when I got Dune Runner and transformed him a few times, I noticed his chest piece (the roof) has a hinge on it allowing you to fold it in half. This clearly isn't for the transformation, so I have so idea what use it has.

    Any ideas?

Sorry, this is the best I can do, my camera's kinda lame and I can't afford a better one. :/ I thought it would be good enough to see, though - it probably helps if you have the figure in hand.

If you own the figure, it's pretty clear what he's talking about. Maybe your inability to help is nothing to do with the clarity of the pictures but you not owning the figure being discussed?

I suppose the hinge can be a little helpful when transforming, but my best guess is it's leftover from a different transformation sequence somewhere in the design process. Kinda like the extra bits on Universe Galvatron.

i don't even have the figure and can see exactly what it is for, but i am thinking along the same lines as optimus sledge, probably left over from a different transformation, or it aids the transformation,

It's possible it helps, but I never had a problem with it before. In fact, I'd transformed it a few times, without problem, before noticing the hinge. If it is a scrapped feature I'd be interested in knowing what it was for.

I think most people that have this figure wonder about that extra hinge. I would suppose it's to aid transformation but the other hinges on the roof and bar under it move the section out of the way just fine. Perhaps it's a separate piece to aid painting it. Maybe he's got a hidden gun emplacement mode. Or flip the chest up and the windscreen down to make a sorta heads-up screen for him when aiming his shoulder cannons.

I wonder if the windshield piece was originally supposed to fold under the roof for robot mode, but the final dimensions ruled that out?

I wonder if this comes in later in the line. Maybe Dune Runner will interact somehow with another figure.
