Got it on DVD. I make sure to watch it at least once every year. It's got one of the greatest commentary tracks I've ever heard. "Orion, Orion... are bankrupt nooow."
He is a god among men. And this thread's got some freaky timing as I finally saw this movie for the first time last weekend. So over the top and silly, I loved it so. Gonna have to go back and check out the commentary everyone keeps raving about.
That's always been my favorite part. I actually caught it once on comedy central, and that entire bit was chopped out. I felt violated. Great movie though, something that you can just relax and watch any time.
I love the UHF commentary. I love how he explains the title changes, 'UHF' means nothing in Europe, etc. Its one of only two commentary tracks I enjoy listening to regularly. 'UHF' and 'Kung Pow'. They chopped it out? What the hell for? Defilers!
I'm sure they had to cut out bits of the movie to fit it into their time slot. Most of the time tv stations will be a little more clever with shortening scenes, but this was terrible. He walked out into the parking lot, and instead of it transitioning to him as Rambo, fastening his headband, it just transitions right to the office where Stanley was being held captive.
Love the movie. So funny, but in a way the whole family can watch y'know. Always the best kind of comedy. Love the commentary too.
Funny enough, I asked Weird Al at Botcon when the sequel to UHF would be coming out sarcastically and he said something along the lines of whenever I can get the funding, but a classic movie nonethless.
Just not the same is it? I don't know if a sequel would even work today, it just has that 80s off the wall 'wierd al in his prime' spark.
Sunstorm already mentioned my favorite line: "Supplies!" I love comedic bits that are completely unexpected, and the "Supplies!" gag caught me totally by surprise. UHF is by no means a great movie, but it is a very amusing one which I've watched many times. I tend to fast-forward to the funnier bits though. I've been a fan of Al since the 80's -- I've seen him in concert twice and actually met him three times. His concerts are hugely entertaining and his band is fantastic. Here's a photo from when I met Al at the 2003 San Diego Comic-Con (with demotivator caption by my friend Steve):
Stanley: Hey, George, is something wrong? George: Stanley, you don't want to know. Stanley: (Scratches head in confusion) Then why'd I ask? Still has me rolling in the isles - even though Michael Richards didn't even 'get' the joke - delivers it magnificently.
