I have heard about this water intoxication before, but I'm not exactly sure how it works - or how it kills you.

    *goes to wikipedia*

    [EDIT] - OH SHIT!

Yeah, that's a damn shame. Usually water intoxication seems to happen to runners over-hydrating, or raver kids trying to avoid heatstroke. It's really sad 'cause this woman was just tryin' to win her kids a Wii.

I told you guys the "wee" jokes would lead to no good.

Anyone else find it appropriate that the victim in a weird death news story has the last name "Strange"?

Wow, I had no idea about Water Intoxification... it really is true that anything can kill you in large doses.

I would have thought a holding hour wee for a wii competition would involve drinking a couple of bigs bottles of water at the beginning of the show and waiting to see how long the contestants could hold it... while hearing running water and doing star jumps, or playing Wii sports that kind of thing.

Its really shitty that someone died over this, and really most people would probably think drinking lots of water would be safe. Tragic.

Yup, a frat kid died in Chico State from a very similar hazing situation. A bunch of the frat brothers are in jail now.

Yeah, it's one of the things that makes ecstasy such a dangerous drug. People pop pills, get Über thirsty, and bam, they're gone.

It amazes me how these people running this contest didn't do a little research beforehand. I guess they honestly didn't know.

A celebrity on UK TV died from it a few years back.

    Weird.

Although the Radio Station is the height of irresponsibility.

You know, I just realized how close this took place to the thing that happened in Chico. You'd think that whoever got the idea for this contest would've heard about the consequences and the lawsuit that the fraternity was going through in Chico.

I guess it just slipped by.

I've heard of something similar to water intoxication before.
I remember my biology teacher telling us that you can drown on dry land by drinking a specific amount of water in a short amount of time.
The cells pretty much burst and stop getting oxygen to the vital organs.

The question I have is, did she win?
