    why does the animation model of G1 Optimus look a bit like a gundam

    EDIT: has to be gundams from the late 70s to the early 90s

    Apart from a mouthguard and being a big humanoid robot there's not really any resemblance.

    A helmet and a forehead crest grill thing aren't unique to Optimus either.

    Probably because they're both influenced by historical military helmets and armor in terms of the headsculpt and some of the body details?

    But other than that, don't see it.

    well the early gundam heads i can kind of see it. especially with primes 'ear' antenae, forehead crest, and mouthless face. however given the mother country where these robotic toys are from ... like minded people will likely make similar designs. however as time goes on the distinction between the 2 has greatly changed.
