I meant to ask this as the credits rolled on the big screen. Just haven't been here enough.
Was Frank even offered to voice his G1 characters?

I think he was definitely considered but they didn't use him since the Movie incarnation of Megatron is a different interpretation from the G1 version.

Frank Welker voiced Movie Megatron for the video game adaption though.

Yes, he was. He even auditioned.

Bay didn't like the voice, so went with Weaving.

Which, I might add, was an excellent decision.

Why? Not that it's bad- it just felt different to me.

Welker's megatron is and always will be the best Megatron voice, cause it fit the character.

However, Weaving's take on it fit THIS megatron perfectly.

Though I do love the voice of Megatron in Animated. And BW wasn't bad either >_>

There was a sound clip released prior to the first movie (someone who knows the link to it help me out here) in which Welker revisited his Megatron voice, and to make a long story short, it just sounded like a raspy (if not slightly creepy) old man who was straining to pass some prunes.

And it's not that I don't appreciate Frank's work on TFs, but Hugo's voice was much more appropriate for the movie character, much as David Kaye's voice was more appropo for BW.

i liked weavings voice, but it was a little too deep now that i watch it a year later, a more intelligent and less ogresque megatron would have been better

And that's good, considering it's a different take on the character.

Actually Hugo Weavings voicing for the movie Megatron was an excellent choice.
I love Frank Welker's voicing for Megatron, but Weavings voicing made him sound even more menacing.
At least they did not use the trashy Megatron voicings from RID, Armada or Cybertron.

I look at it this way. Megs was artially awake during his poking and prodding by Sector7. Heck. even bumblebee had some anger after only several hours. Megs was frozen for a long time. (and if you want to take an interpretation of the prequel novel into account humans have subdued him before) He really doesn't like humans.
I would be ogresque and go on a rampage after that too.

I am SO TIRED of people using that. Get a new line!

Yes, Welker auditioned. I heard the recording and in all honestly, he lost the ability to create the voice he used in the 80's for Megatron. Either that or back then they used something to add to the voice.

His voice just didn't fit the look, plain and simple. I loved Weaving's Megratron, he looked homocidal and beastial and Hugo got that across with his voice work.

And yeh if what they did to BB in a few hours was enough to upset him to the point of pulling his canon, I can understand Megs, being the egotistical, genocidal, tyrant he is, going berserk and announcing his name. Loved how that was delivered too.

My flatmate LOVES the bit where Megatron tosses whats left of Jazz aside and growls "PRIME!"... sorry but Welker couldn't have achieved that deep gutteral sound.

Welker is great for G1, fit the character and the style of the show.

His voice in for Movie Megatron in the game was terrible, so glad that they went with Weaving for the movie itself.

It's not a "line". The fact that this movie is not G1 is TRUTH, no matter how hard it is for people to get over it.

Hugo Weaving's was boring. I definitely wouldn't speak like that if I'd been frozen for hundreds of years and little bug like beings probed me every day. Not maniacal enough.

if you have the g1 megs cheat on the voice fits well, but not in the cutscenes.
this megatron is suited to a voice like weavings, just like bw/bm/aec megs was suited for david kaye. yeeeeesssss.

He auditioned, but Bay said it didn't fit, and he thought it would be disrespectful to ask him to change it. And I agree.

Welker would have been good if he didn't do it all raspy like on the game. He should have just done Megatron. On Youtube, there's a video of film Megatron with Welker's lines from TFTM fitting the flaps. When he says "Such heroic nonsense!" It is awesome. But I love Hugo Weaving's version. Actually made Megs scary. He would have also been good if he did something like his voice in the Matrix. So Hugo was a win-win, however you look at it.
