When DoTM was first in theaters, people were dissappointed that the scene where Megatron blows an elephant's brains out, which was in the comic and novel. But watching DoTM last night, I personally think that scene was never suppose to be in it. Megatron pulls his gun out, and snarls. People said that's when he shoots the animal, but I think he did that to scare the other animals off.

    Thoughts?

(Though elephant gore would be cool...)

I don't think it was ever said it was supposed to be in there. Just a lot of people (myself included) were really hoping it would be.

I think it was too heavy (elephants being endangered and all), so they probably replaced it with Laserbeak shooting down that poor buzzard.

    Agreed.

However, I feel sorry for the buzzard. (Or was it a vulture?)

I can see why they left it out, but c'mon - Megatron is EVIL! Killing things is what he does.

The novelization is based upon the actual script; that said, they are two different writings. Whereas the script is what will be filmed, the novelization is given more leeway to add or change sections to tweak the story.

There have been instances where writers and directors would change the script based upon a draft for the novel, but not in this film.

It was supposed to be in the movie. It's obvious when they show Megatron pull out his gun, and cut to a shot of elephants retreating. What do you think would've happened in between?

OK, it's fiction, but this 'desire' for wanting to see a poor animal getting shot is sick. Just my opinion.

It's not just that, it's seeing an elephant get shot by a 30 foot hobo robot.

Doesn't matter, it's still not right to be on film. Which I'm thankful it's not, personally.

Oh yeah they show robots killing tons of people and only their bones remaining and we see a bus full of corpses that's not a big deal but showing an elephant getting killed THAT'S TOO MUCH MAN THAT'S TOO FUCKING MUCH!

Am I the only one who thinks that it's sick that we care more about animals than other human beings?

Other than it being in the novel and potentially the draft of the script, I guess we'll never know.

The way the scene is edited together now supports (/disproves) both theories. The way the shots are matched up, you could've totally had a few extra shots in between consisting of Megatron killing an elephant. Or perhaps the way the scene flows now is how it was originally intended? Again, who knows? If you want a character to appear evil, they have to kill an animal. But then Megatron would be even more derided for being the "cliche animal-killing villain". I think the proposed scene would've been cool, but I'm not upset that it's not included.

It's a lose-lose situation here. If you say you care more about animals than humans, then you're a stupid misanthropist who should die and stuff. If you say you care about humans more than animals, then you're a cruel SOB.

The Transformers fandom doesn't do much to disprove this.
