Now for those of you who don't know, Square Pictures was a division of Square (now known as Square Enix) that developed computer-generated films. It's only two films were "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" and a segment of "The Animatrix" entitled "Final Fight of the Osiris" which takes place shortly before "The Matrix Reloaded". A while back while reading an article about them on Wikipedia, It said that they were at one point (or at least rumored to) going to do a CG-Animated TF film. I'm not sure if this is even true or not, but could someone clear this up for me?

If they haven't, they should. Final Flight of the Osiris was breathtaking.

I'm not sure if they're still around, I think they may've shut down after the failure of Spirits from Within but considering they did Final Flight of the Osiris which came out in 2003, I see no evidence of their disappearance. But I do agree that it was great, and it was probably the only segment of that piece of crap that I enjoyed.

God, I hope not. And if by any weird chance they did, I hope someone else would be in creative control. Spirits Within was a horrible, horrible mess and the only reason I saw it in theaters was to see the original Spider-Man trailer. Flight of the Osiris was okay, but I chalk that up to the Wachowskis and Warner keeping control over their property. In terms of technology Final Fantasy was hot stuff back in the day because of their extensive use of Maya and Renderman, which are much more accessible to smaller studios today. So unless Square Pictures has some new fancy artistic trick up their sleeve or *gasp* learn how to write and tell a competent story, I don't see Hasbro handing Transformers over to them any time soon.

You mean the one that was recalled from theaters because of the scene where Spidey webs up the helicopter in-between the Twin Towers?

Probably not. They got burned so badly with the Final Fantasy movie, that I seriously doubt that they would have tried to make another feature film.

Very much so. It's a shame that it never saw the light of day. Well, aside from on the internet:

But didn't they do Final Flight of the Osiris after the failure of Spirits from Within?

I believe so. Maybe it was their last project before closing shop and rejoining SquareEnix. According to my research, the merger was delayed for two years after the failure of Spirits, as Square Enix did not want to be known for having a division that loses money. I believe this was the time that they made Osiris.

agreed. i seriously want them to get hired by paramount and hasbro to create TF4. Here's a display of one of their fight scenes:
