Let's be realistic here. Traveling in the Arctic and having to take responsibility for a crew can be an overwhelming experience. Who's to say that stress didn't drive the man insane? I mean why else would Sam live in a fantasy world where cars turn into giant men.

Furthermore he thinks the government sees him as an important! Classic case of paranoid schizophrenia. I've made my point.

Note: this was entirely satirical. I just keep on seeing more and more ludicrous discussions on the side bar every day. Some things can be taken too far.

I don't think his grandfather was actually insane, other than the same pyschotic episodes Sam had in RotF where he spewed out All Spark data. Archibold was most likely committed because his story sounded insane and Sector 7 wanted him out of the way so the public would not know about the NBE-1.

 

Archibald Witwicky wasnt insane, he didnt even went insane.

People thought he was because of what he babbled: the giant ice man, the symbols he drew, etc.

But he wasnt insane.

 

Maybe Sam was just taking an especially difficult dump and the strain burst a blood vessel in his head and he's been in a coma all this time and the Bay movies have been taking place in his head all along.

And his parents sit by his hospital bed wondering why he sometimes mutters 'Give me your face'.

 

Sam isn't insane....He's a total spaz.

He's also a whiny brat, screaming "oh no no no no" everywhere, He wins about getting a job, having to say he loved one women only to dump her.....he's the hopeless loser that ends up with the girl because he had to be a "relatable protagonist".

I feel bad for Archibald he must be rolling in his grave. His own grandson would betray him and sell his glasses on eBay to buy a car and make out with a girl on it. For Shame Mr.Witwicky FOOOOOOR SHAAAAAAME!

 

I wouldn't say insane but he was definitely a dick in the third one.

Actually, there is a deleted scene in dvd2 of TF1, where Sam says exactly what you postulate xD

He is coming out of the police building with his dad, and says "Remember how Grandpa kinda flew over the cuckoo's nest? What if that gene was passed down to me?"

To what Ron says nothing, but it's exactly your basic idea.

Truth is, Sam isnt insane, and Archibald wasnt either, people just locked him away thinking he was.

 

It would be funny if in TF4, on the last minutes, it was revalead that Sam was actually about to be lobotomized by Simmons while he's humming "Aquarela of the Brazil".

Had this been the ending to the trilogy, I might have deemed the whole exercise of watching all three films to be worthwhile.  

 

Did anyone else find it weird that he called every robot "Tyler Durden"?
