Was Merlin meant to be a Visionaries homage?

The whole angle with Merlin sounds like something Hasbro requested to put in the film for their Visionaries brand. Alien magic, staffs of power, Optimus and Megatron in Knight armor... it fits the requirements for a Visionaries homage.

Though the idea sounds cool, especially with a Visionaries film in the works, I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence since everything knight related in the film all came from the "transformers knights" script they wrote in the writers room, before the mashed it all together with the WWII script and the TF4 sequal script to form what we know as "The Last Knight" (at least that's what I can tell from all the TF5 bonus festures).

Not an intentional homage, it's just the Arthurian mythos.

More like the Visionaries were also ripping off the King Arthur legend.

Would be interesting to see Autobots and Decepticons interact with the Visionaries.

Seems like that would require a certain level of coherent thought that is obviously missing from that film.

Uh, I think the fact that they made Merlin into a liar and con-man negates any possible Visionaries "homage." It seems more likely that he's suppose to be a "Jar Jar" like comedy relief character. But with booze and chasing women vibe. I hardly think Hasbro is even thinking of Visionaries.

That's currently happening in the IDW comics. It's why I thought of this to begin with.
