I was thinking earlier today about Jazzes demise in the movie. How Megatron just ripped Jazz in half. Ok, fine, so he made two Jazzes, but since when has getting ripped in half ever really stopped a Transformer? Almost never.

Take Waspinator for example. He probably should have died a million times through out the run of Beast Wars. He could most likely take a better hit then Jazz could, which is kinda sad if you really think about it.
How many times was Omega Supreme blown to bits? And he managed to come out ok.

But anyway my point is, a Transformer getting ripped in half is really nothing more than in an inconvenience, right? So why didn't Ratchet, the best medic on Cybertron patch Jazz back together?

I mean Ratchet did little to nothing in the movie as it was, so saving Jazz at the end of the film would have made his presence more important, instead of him being a big green useless thing. (hey that almost rhymes)

He didn't really even repair Bumblebee, I think the Allspark did most of the work.

Plus Ironhide was the one who told Prime that Jazz was dead. Since when did Ironhide become Ratchets nurse? Why didn't...Oh I don't know....the chief medic make the diagnosis? Maybe movie Ratchet is just bad at what his does.

So yea, why was Ratchet so useless in the movie?

    What are your thoughts?

    bye bye.

Well they kinda didn't really do much with most of the bots outside Optimus and BB.

With Jazz, you can say that with enough damage done anything can die. The cartoons were a bit far fetched in how much destruction could be done and still have the character reapear. But look at Optimus in the 86 movie, didn't seem like he took a HUGE a mount of damage yet it was enough to slowly kill him. Same could be said for Jazz. Whatever damage was done by Megs, then getting thrown, was more than likely too much to take and he died before the others could do anything for him.

Yeah admittedly Ratchet was a little useless in that end in the movie, but it would have had to be Ratchet who put BB's legs back together.

With Ironhide being the one to tell Optimus about Jazz's death and bring him the body, could be Ironhide felt he needed to, since he is a very close friend to Optimus and felt the need to be the one to break the news... i dunno.

Well this being a lot different and trying to make it realistic Jazz shouldn't be very functional. And his smaller size makes him probably more vulnerable.
When Ratchet says, "Prime I couldn't save him" it sounds kind of like that Jazz wasn't completely killed by being ripped in two pieces. Megatron did throw his pieces of the building, it took a me a while to realize what he threw.

Well in the Micheal Bay movie storyline the true spark driven 'circulatory and nervous' system hasn't been described in detail completely yet. Its quite possible that they have viens and arteries of energon that keep central processors running. Hell we don't even know if the Spark is truely their soul in this universe yet. If this is the case that they have a circulatory system of energon then its possible he 'bled out' or enough damage was sustained to vital systems during the tearing process and the inevitable throwing him to the ground impact. If that was the case it would be near impossible to do a on site emergency repair job. It also seems that their inner workings are a very complex thing that is painstaking to repair at best. That might explain the slowness in Ratchet's treatment of BB's voice box. Or in his case he could have recently sustained the wound.

I don't remember Ratchet saying about trying to save Jazz. I'll have to watch it agian.
But you might be right. Maybe Ratchet did try to do something. Would have been nice to actually see that in the movie.

As I've said in the past; I felt more bad for Bumblebee when he lost his feet then I did for Jazz for getting himself killed. I think that can be said for most people.

Now this is one of my very few quibbles with the movie. We don't see Ratchet doing any medic stuff other than zapping Bumblebee's throat with a regenerative plasma blast (that's what Orci called it).

I'm guessing it was just another of the robot-focussed things we didn't get because of the budget.

As for the end with Ironhide telling Prime about Jazz, it IS Ironhide who tells him, not Ratchet. It looks like Ratchet is majorly upset/pissed at not being able to save Jazz, since when we see him behind Ironhide (carrying Jazz's leftovers) he has his head down and looks very sombre.

    I agree with this.

They're trying to be realistic with the movieverse. Super advanced robots would have super advanced transformations and extremely complex internal mechanics.

For that I believe a cybertronian has more than just a heart, as all the cartoon continuities simply show. (The heart being the spark) Realistically speaking a cybertronian would have other parts as well, every one of them as important just like how we have a brain, heart, lungs, intestines etc.

Thus ripping Jazz in two would be enough to kill him. Although I myself wish he didn't die, I have to say it does make sense a 'robot' could die.

I thought when Megatron ripped Jazz in 2, it ripped his Spark apart as well...

Could also be said being ripped in half, taking into account how complex their bodies are, could have damaged vital systems for maintaining/protecting his spark... or something like that. They really need to 'flesh' them out some more in TF2 and 3.

It was Ironhide who said that (it was 'we couldn't" BTW). And saying that they couldn't save him sounds pretty conclusive he was long dead.

I'm pretty sure that since Jazz was a "normal' robot akin to a "normal" human being ripped in half is a pretty conclusive way to buy the farm. (though Megs gave him a discount)

Yeah Jazz's spark was pretty much busted there and then. I presume that's what that little blue explosion is when Megs tears him in half.

ok, I dont ever get into these discussions, but I have to with this one, if jazz getting ripped in half killed him (which is understandable thru the advanced interenal mechanics and what not) WHY did Frenzy getting his head REMOVED from his BODY not kill him??? I really honestly wish they hadnt killed jazz. I liked Jazz. Jazz was cool as hell. But Frenzy gets his freakkin head chopped off by Megan Fox doesnt kill him at first but then at the end of the move his own wepaon does it.... Theres a lot in the movie that does and doesnt make sence to me, and now my head hurts....

How is this a spoiler? I think 95% of the people here have seen the movie. Besides, Ironhide states that they werent able to save him, so I think that would make him a goner.

The original script treatment was a little more gruesome on this bit, it actually had Megatron rip Jazz in half, then eat his Spark. At least I think that was how it went. Being ripped in half is a quite conclusive way to die either way when you're being realistic, but the added detail of then having your heart ripped out and eaten basically makes it "been nice knowing you" territory.

I'm trying to appease any mods that might want me to add 'spoilers' to the title. Basically, I decided to cut out the middleman, and do it myself.

i agree wth the guy talking about frenzy-how did he survive decapitation, while Jazz died from bein torn in half? and why did being beheaded kill Bonecrusher? unless its just the diff. types of bots.

Megatron still held onto Jazz for a while after ripping him in two. Maybe Jazz didn't die just yet, but Megatron probably did something to finish him.

If you think about it Torque and OMEGAPRIME1983, Frenzy is like a shrimp: his vitals are in his head. That's why his head became a "spider" and crawled about. His disc that hit him in the head hit his vital circuits. As for Bonecrusher, if you look closely, Optimus shoves his sword into Bonecrusher's chest at an upward angle, right through the Spark. The sword tip nicked his neck and sliced his head off.

Each robot is built differently, its been like that since G1; Was there anyone else that could be invisible other than Mirage? Hound's hologram? Frenzy was just designed with a backup system, Bonecrusher probably wasnt. Frenzy might have needed it as he was a spy. Brawl was made of a harder shell, yet Blackout went out pretty easily; and even then Blackout and Barricade were able to carry their partners with them whereas the others probably couldnt.
