I've been considering pre-ordering the Transformers : Evolutions - Hearts of Steel (2012 Edition) off Amazon, and just was wondering how the people who have read it felt. Is the whole series worth $14?

I, myself, haven't read the series, and I know very little about it (I think the concept in itself is cool), but a "whole series" for $14 sounds good in any language!

I have the original series and I liked the story as well as the designs for the bots.

Just remember it's NOT 2005 or later. :D

Well, IIRC, it was only 4 issues, but I completely agree with you on the awesome designs.

The setup was okay, but the resolution was a major letdown and hinged on a major stupidity on the Decepticons' behalf. Basically, the Seekers forgot they can fly.

yeah I must admit I did not like the story line at all, i felt it was crap really but I loved the idea of the bots as they looked fantastic. Sadly only the decepticons had good alt modes in that serise when it came ot the steam era, but when they were in their forms previous to that era and the other cons and bots that were still asleep I enjoyed looking at those alt modes as I thought that they looked really good.

Great concept and setup, disappointingly short story length and ending.

I read part of it, but that was a pretty long time ago, and I don't think I ever knew how it ended. Still, I love the idea of steampunk Transformers, and how they worked in historical and mythical figures from the time, like Mark Twain, Jules Verne, and John Henry.

Like people have said, a bunch of really neat concepts, executed terribly. So you end up with some interesting moments sandwiched between poor pacing and a convoluted plot.

It has it's moments. It's certainly worth $14 to check it out.

Mark Twain fights Ravage. If anything sells you on the concept, it'll be that.

    Ending really lets it down.

    What everyone else said ...

Seriously though, I would pick it up. It's a decent read, but it will leave you desiring more from the HOS continuity.

I teach American History, so I thought it was a pretty entertaining read for a one-shot-deal.

I liked the concept and design of HoS. But it ended too soon... :(

It was pretty good aside from the ending.

I mean, MARK TWAIN DEFEATS RAVAGE. I don't care who you are, that's just made of awesome right there.

All of this. I loved this story up until about 10 pages from the end... then it is a huge disappointment. But for the first 80%... definitely worth it.

I was kind of disappointed they gave up on the whole "Evolutions" mini-series ideas... I mean, I know WHY (sales), but there could've been some really interesting other time periods... both past and future.

Technically, their alt-modes shouldn't be able to fly...

I would have REALLY liked to see HOS in a full fledged monthly title. I'd worry about IDW screwing it up, but I'd still like to see it given a shot.

Well, given that the HoS universe is going to be involved in Infestation part deux...

Oh, and they'll be facing off with Old Ones. PH'NGLUI MGLW'NAFH CTHULHU R'LYEH WGAH'NAGL FHTAGN! IA! IA!
